Position Summary

The Corporate - Restructuring Paralegal assists attorneys in all stages of in-court bankruptcy proceedings and out-of-court transactions. They provide a vital service in preparing and verifying necessary documents to comply with federal and local rules, conduct precedent research, electronically file documents on the court docket, prepare for court hearings and provide support to lawyers at the hearing. They will also assist with knowledge management initiatives and select business development assignments.

Essentials Duties and Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Draft correspondence and documentation under attorney supervision
  • Revise and proofread draft pleadings and other court documents under attorney supervision
  • Conduct factual research assignments and report findings, including docket and precedent research on various restructuring tools and technologies 
  • File court documents electronically on case docket
  • Coordinate with internal and external working groups to facilitate case progress
  • Assist with the preparation of fee applications in compliance with federal and local fee guidelines, including coordinating workflow among attorneys, billing department and administrative assistants

Hearing Preparation:

  • Analyze docket and draft hearing agenda
  • Retrieve and organize underlying documents
  • Coordinate with Chambers regarding submission
  • Compile all documents, books, and other material and provide needed support during hearing, including coordinating with Chambers

Knowledge Management:

  • Gather, organize, and maintain precedent collections under attorney supervision
  • Review precedent materials and electronically tag key attributes
  • Work with attorneys to gather information on, organize, and maintain a database of Davis Polk restructuring deals 

Qualifications / Position Requirements

  • Ability to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines
  • Must be punctual and reliable
  • Proficient in legal research tools preferred (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis), document management software (e.g., iManage), and Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and aptitude to learn other applications as needed
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with attorneys and staff, demonstrating strong teamwork and a positive attitude
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to proofread typed material for typographical, spelling, and grammatical errors
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ensure confidentiality of all the Firm’s and client’s documentation and information

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with a strong academic record is required
  • Entry - Level Position
