We are looking for a dedicated part-time (27 hours per week) Dance Teacher to join our team and contribute to the well-being of our participants.

Job Title: Dance Teacher
Program: Day Hab / Classroom – 1 day classroom and 4 days DayHab Without Walls Program
Location: Farmington, NY – in person
Status: Regular, Part-time
Salary Range: starting at $20 per hour
Reports to: Day Hab Manager and applicable supervisor
Positions Supervised: Not applicable
Minimum Experience: Previous relevant experience teaching dance (any genre) or working with adults with disabilities is preferred.
The Dance Teacher will lead engaging dance classes for adults with disabilities. Your role will involve designing creative lesson plans that are adaptive to the varied abilities of participants, creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere, and providing a supportive learning environment. You will work closely with other staff members to ensure the students’ physical, emotional, and social needs are met.
The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to improving the lives of individuals with disabilities and a compassionate approach to care.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
- Strong background in various dance styles (ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, etc.)
- Ability to design courses, manage classrooms, use initiative, and adapt teaching methods.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
- A passion for dance and an understanding of how it can positively impact individuals with disabilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Compassionate, patient, and respectful of others' dignity and independence.
- Professionalism: dependability and enthusiasm.
- Creative thinking skills
- Ability to create an inclusive classroom environment.
- Ability to handle physical tasks, including lifting and transferring participants.
- Ability to learn basic personal care needs including toileting. Training will be provided.
- Ability to learn first aid. Training will be provided.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of individuals with disabilities.
Physical Abilities:
- Ability to safely lift, move, and transfer 50 lbs. or more, requiring core strength for support and movement.
- Standing, walking, and being physically active for extended periods, using back and stomach muscles.
- Constant movement in rooms, hallways, and workspaces, including bending, crouching, and reaching.
- Good vision (close, distance, color, peripheral) and hearing to understand participants and observe details.
- Ability to travel to offsite locations using company-provided transportation (bus) for extended periods of time is required.
Responsibilities:
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Plan and teach part-time dance classes, develop curriculum, and demonstrate techniques for adults with disabilities.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and fun environment for students.
- Adapt dance techniques and movements to meet the varying needs and abilities of students.
- Foster a sense of community, respect, and teamwork within the classroom.
- Effectively communicate with students, parents, and staff about progress, expectations, and studio events.
- Monitor progress, provide feedback, motivate students, and build confidence.
- Collaborate with other staff members to teach other disciplines (art, theater, music) when necessary.
- Open to participating in recreational activities and in other teachers’ classes.
- Ensure that all classes are conducted in accordance with safety and cleanliness standards.
- Attend team meetings and participate in staff development opportunities.
- Assisting with student personal needs as needed.
