Part-Time Intake Advisor
CLASS TITLE: PART-TIME INTAKE ADVISOR - ENGLISH & SPANISH

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Asian Business Association San Diego (ABASD) is seeking a motivated and organized bilingual (English & Spanish) Part-Time Intake Advisor to join our team. Under the general direction of the center director, the Intake Advisor will develop and promote business activities aligned with program goals and local economic development efforts. This role involves consulting with both potential and existing small business owners, providing guidance and assistance to support their business operations and growth. The advisor will also perform a variety of professional tasks to support the program's objectives, ensuring that the services provided align with the needs of the business community and contribute to overall economic development. This role is part of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) program and involves direct engagement with entrepreneurs and business owners from diverse communities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
- Conduct one-on-one intake meetings with small business owners to gather information on their needs and challenges.
- Assist in assessing the business stage, goals, and required support services.
- Provide guidance on available business development resources, programs, and workshops.
- Work closely with ABASD’s SBDC team to ensure appropriate referrals to specialized services (e.g., marketing, finance, or business planning).
- Document and maintain accurate records of client interactions and follow-up actions.
- Collaborate with the team to identify trends and common challenges faced by clients and offer solutions or recommendations.
- Stay informed about relevant programs, resources, and services available through ABASD and SBDC.
- Support the team in outreach efforts to underserved business communities, especially those with language barriers.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
- Basic operations, services, and activities of a business assistance program
- Methods and procedures used in starting or expanding a business.
- Methodologies of problem identification and problem-solving.
- Methods and techniques of public speaking and presentation styles.
- Principles and procedures of record keeping and basic report preparation.
- Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and related software. English usage spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
Ability to:
- Recommend and implement goals and objectives for providing business assistance services.
- Analyze situations accurately and develop an effective course of action in an individual counseling or group education setting.
- Provide guidance, technical assistance, and direction to businesses.
- Provide applicable and helpful information regarding business operations.
- Work independently with limited supervision.
- Use sound judgment in recognizing the scope of authority.
- Prioritize work to meet schedules and timelines.
- Operate office equipment including computers and supporting software applications.
- Adapt to changing technologies and learn the functionality of new equipment and systems.
- Work with and exhibit sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse racial, ethnic, disabled, sexual orientation, and cultural populations of community college students.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with individuals from diverse cultural, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Any combination equivalent to: a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business administration, public administration, entrepreneurship, or a related field.
- Experience working with small business owners or entrepreneurs is preferred.
- Spanish or Arabic is highly preferred
LANGUAGE
Fluency in English and Spanish, including the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Valid California driver’s license and a safe driving record.
HOURS:
This is a part-time position with flexible hours, typically requiring 15-20 hours per week.
