Senior Accountant
Senior Staff Accountants work as part of a team of problem solvers in a fast-paced environment with multiple client engagements simultaneously. They proactively assist in the management of several clients while reporting to Senior Management. Senior Accountants are responsible for general ledger accounting, GAAP financial reporting, financial profitability analysis as well as ensuring the meeting of milestones and deadlines, delegating project tasks as needed and supervising the work of Staff Accountants.
As a Senior Accountant, the duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Trains and Leads Staff Accountants; Reviews work and provides guidance before delivery to the Director
- Handles daily oversight of the team including setting deadlines
- Establishes effective working relationships directly with clients as well as their customers and vendors; Works with auditors and tax accountants on clients’ behalf
- Contributes to the development of your own and team’s technical acumen
- Consults on complex GAAP accounting and financial reporting matters
- Evaluates adequacy of internal controls and business processes, and implementation of those controls and processes
- Prepares financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and departments
- Analyzes information and options by developing excel models and verifying that information
- Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files and reconciling accounts
- Prepares payments by accruing expenses, assigning account numbers, requesting disbursements, and reconciling accounts
- Develops and implements GAAP accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures and recommending changes where they will benefit clients
- Answers accounting and financial questions through research and data interpretation
- Prepares GAAP financial statements
- Protects the organization’s value by keeping information confidential
- Develops budgets; Ensures the team’s deliverables are on time and within budget
Requirements
- Experience managing projects that require thinking holistically, identifying key challenges, and delivering against tight deadlines
- Experience managing, guiding and developing staff level accountants
- Analytical skills and a capacity to conduct sophisticated and rigorous analyses of both quantitative and qualitative information
- Demonstrated ability to conduct financial analyses and create detailed financial statements
- Excellent writing, editing and oral communication skills; ability to organize and present complex information in a clear and concise manner
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships at all levels of an organization, often in complex and sensitive environments
- Diplomatic, broad-minded, flexible, curious and detail-oriented
- Proven solution-orientated client service skills
