Software Engineer - C#/.NET, Windows Services

Software Engineer – C#/.NET, Windows Services

Rational Enterprise | Albany, NY (In-Office)

Rational Enterprise is looking for a motivated new grad to join the engineering team behind Rational Governance (RG), our enterprise information governance platform. RG helps organizations understand and manage unstructured data in real-time — powering legal holds, preservations, retention policies, and risk reduction across enterprise data environments. If you're passionate about building software that runs at scale behind the scenes and want to grow your skills in a real-world product team, we'd love to hear from you.

What you'll do

  • Develop and maintain Windows services and background processes in C# and .NET
  • Build components that discover, scan, and extract data across enterprise file systems, mailboxes, and other repositories
  • Work alongside senior engineers on features that power legal holds, preservation workflows, and retention policy enforcement
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and continuous improvement of the codebase
  • Collaborate with product and QA teams on feature delivery and defect resolution

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Coursework or project experience with C# or another strongly typed OO language (Java, C++ considered)
  • Solid foundation in object-oriented programming and data structures
  • Curiosity about systems-level software — background processes, services, and how data moves across networks
  • Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn in a team environment

Nice to have

  • Any exposure to .NET, Windows Services, or file system/network programming
  • Internship or co-op experience in a software development role
  • Familiarity with multithreading, async programming, or enterprise APIs (REST, SOAP)
