Director of Planning

Insite Studio is a professional consulting firm specializing in landscape architecture, urban design, and planning. The firm is headed up by two professional landscape architects (PLA’s) with over 35 years of combined experience and is based in West Palm Beach, Florida. Insite Studio is a fast-paced, creative, and exciting place to work with like-minded individuals who are passionate about design and the landscape architectural profession.

 

How You’ll Make an Impact

The ideal Director of Planning candidate is accomplished, engaged, and ready to hit the ground running. This role will lead our growing firm, oversee transformative projects, mentor talented staff, expand client relationships, and help shape the company's strategic direction and continued success.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead and manage the Urban Planning Department, including staff development and performance 
  • Direct comprehensive planning, master planning, and long-range growth initiatives
  • Oversee review of development applications, rezonings, site plans, and entitlement processes
  • Develop and update zoning ordinances, land development regulations, and planning policies
  • Coordinate with developers, consultants, government agencies, and community stakeholders
  • Present planning recommendations to elected officials, boards, and public committees
  • Guide urban design, placemaking, redevelopment, and public realm improvement projects
  • Manage departmental budgets, consultant contracts, project schedules, and resources
  • Support infrastructure, transportation, sustainability, and resilience planning efforts
  • Drive strategic initiatives that promote responsible growth, economic development, and community enhancement

 

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Public Administration, or related field.
  • Master’s degree in Planning or a related field preferred.
  • 8–10+ years of progressively responsible planning experience.
  • Prior leadership or department management experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of zoning, land use regulations, comprehensive planning, and entitlement processes.
  • Experience presenting to public boards, elected officials, clients, and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, budgets, and consultant teams.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and public presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with planning tools such as GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar software preferred.
  • AICP certification preferred; professional registration or relevant certifications are a plus.
