The Framingham History Center (FHC) preserves and shares the stories that shape our community through exhibitions, public programs, educational experiences, and the stewardship of three historic buildings and a 25,000-piece artifact and archives collection. Established in 1888, the Framingham History Center’s mission is to preserve and share the history of Framingham in order to create connection to the community.

Position Overview
The Programs and Education Manager is a full-time position responsible for planning, coordinating, promoting, and implementing the Framingham History Center’s public programs, special events, and educational initiatives.
This role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, community-minded, and comfortable managing many moving parts. The successful candidate will enjoy creating timelines, coordinating logistics, working with people of all ages, and overseeing programs that are welcoming, well-run, and realistic to implement.
The Programs and Education Manager reports to the Operations Director and may supervise interns, temporary program staff, docents, and program volunteers. Evening and weekend events are required as needed for the events and program schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Public Programs and Special Events
- Plan and implement public programs, lectures, workshops, tours, exhibition programs, and community gatherings.
- Coordinate major annual events, including the House Tour, Haunted Trolley Tour, Trivia Night, and other special programs.
- Create timelines, task lists, supply lists, budgets, registration plans, and day-of schedules.
- Coordinate staff, volunteers, speakers, performers, vendors, committees, and community partners.
- Track attendance, expenses, supplies, participant feedback, and follow-up needs.
History & Interdisciplinary Education Programs
- Coordinate education initiatives for all ages, including school partnerships, tours, ESL-related programs, and special education projects.
- Help develop and adapt activities for different ages, learning styles, languages, and accessibility needs.
- Develop and coordinate program materials, teacher communication, volunteer support, and participant logistics.
- Lead or assist with school programs, youth and family programs, tours, and onsite learning experiences.
- Train, recruit, and support docents, volunteers, interns, and temporary staff assisting with education programs.
Community Engagement and Promotion
- Represent the FHC at community events, partner gatherings, and in the general community.
- Build positive working relationships with schools, families, local organizations, and community partners.
- Support multilingual, inclusive, and culturally responsive programming.
- Coordinate basic promotion for programs through event listings, community calendars, email announcements, and social media content.
- Keep public-facing program information accurate, clear, and up to date.
- With the larger FHC team, assist in recruiting volunteers and docents for programs.
Qualifications & Skills
Required Skills
- Bilingual and/or bicultural proficiency.
- Strong organizational, planning, and follow-through skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and details at once.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence working with children, families, volunteers, community partners, and the general public.
- Confidence using Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office.
- A growth-oriented mindset when approaching new skills and projects.
- Ability to work independently while keeping supervisor informed and keeping FHC mission in the forefront.
- A practical, collaborative, flexible approach to work.
- Interest in local history, public history, education, museums, or community engagement.
- Commitment to inclusive, accessible, and community-centered programming.
Note: Museum experience is not required.
Preferred Skills
- Fluency in English and Spanish or English and Portuguese preferred.
- Classroom management, teaching, museum education, camp, after-school, or other group facilitation experience.
- Experience planning programs, events, workshops, tours, or community gatherings.
- Ability to create plans using templates and past event descriptions. Ability to research, problem-solve, and create solutions to future problems.
- Experience coordinating volunteers, interns, or temporary staff.
- Experience working with multilingual or bicultural communities.

Compensation & Benefits
This is a full-time, salaried position with a salary range of $50,000–$55,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits include:
