Editor-in-Chief

This is an unpaid, volunteer position.

Sound of Boston is seeking a passionate, organized, and experienced Editor-in-Chief to support our growing team. As Editor-in-Chief, you’d be leading a team of fellow volunteer writers and photographers in Boston, guiding the publication in its mission of uplifting local Boston music. 


 

Key responsibilities include:

- leading regular all-staff meetings throughout the year to check in with writers about expectations, articles, workshops, and goals

- working alongside the Managing Editor, Editors, and Photography Director to ensure content is being regularly uploaded to the website

- monitoring the general Sound of Boston email and hiring email for show opportunities, album review opportunities, and interested writers and photographers

- editing writer articles as needed, providing grammar feedback as well as structural support, encouraging writers to grow and improve throughout their time at Sound of Boston

- fostering relationships not only within the Sound of Boston staff, but with the greater music community in Boston 


 

The ideal candidate would: 

- be Boston-based 

- be passionate about music 

- have some familiarity with the Boston music scene and Boston venues, as well as a willingness to be involved in the community

- have prior editing experience and a knowledge of publications, journalism, and music

- be comfortable leading a group of volunteer writers and photographer s
