About the Role:

You will support the work of the Planning Service through the use of  Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to undertake spatial and statistical analysis together with effective presentation of outputs, including mapping. 

Working with others you will develop and deliver spatial information and systems to inform the preparation of statutory development plans (Local Plans) and other strategies for land use, environment and economic development. This will include identifying, obtaining and analysing complex spatial information relating to trends and needs, identifying development site constraints, evaluating options and monitoring the effectiveness of work areas and projects.

The role will involve working closely with the Senior Project Officer (GIS) and using a wide range of spatial, technical and analytical skills and requires a focus on attention to detail. Training will be provided to build and expand GIS skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Building skills and experience in the use of the Councils Geographic Information System to asssit with the analysis and presentation of spatial data
  • Information gathering and analysis through the use of databases
  • undertaking site visits and desktop analysis to monitor development activity and inputting and analysing information using a database and writing reports.
  • administering and maintaining the Council’s web based Local Plan mapping portal and Planning Policy public consultation system.

What will be expected from me?

  • Keen and enthusiastic to gain and expand skills in GIS in a busy planning policy team
  • Ability to work in a team and alone and carry out site visits to monitor development activity
  • Gain skills in the Councils consultation software

Essential requirements:

  • At least a level 4/5 qualification in GIS or a related subject, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Awareness of Geographic Information Systems
  • Experience of successful project work (which may have been in an academic setting)
  • IT skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
