Business Development and Client Experience Associate
Tom James Clothiers is the world’s largest provider of custom clothing, serving busy professionals through highly personalized wardrobe planning and service.
We’re looking for an energetic, creative, and highly dependable college student to work directly with a top Sales Professional in our Columbia office. This is more than a traditional administrative position. You’ll get hands-on experience helping grow a local business while learning about sales, marketing, social media, client service, relationship development, and business operations.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys both creating and executing—someone who can help develop a stronger social media presence, research potential clients and business opportunities, improve the client experience, and also make sure the important details behind the scenes get done exceptionally well.
You’ll have the opportunity to contribute ideas of your own, including creative ways to help clients get more value from their wardrobes and ways we can provide a level of personalized service they won’t find from a traditional clothing retailer.
This is an excellent opportunity for a student interested in business, marketing, sales, entrepreneurship, fashion, communications, or client relationship management who wants real responsibility and the opportunity to see how a business grows.
What You’ll Do
You’ll work directly with the Sales Professional in three areas:
Business Development & Marketing
- Research prospective clients, referrals, businesses, and networking opportunities
- Help create and manage content for Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and other relevant platforms
- Assist with developing marketing campaigns and client outreach
- Create promotional materials and help develop new ideas for growing the business
- Track marketing and prospecting efforts to see what is generating appointments and sales
Client Experience
- Help us develop creative tools that make owning a custom wardrobe easier, including personalized outfit combinations and wardrobe guides
- Help prepare for client appointments and ensure clothing is ready for delivery
- Assist with client follow-up and proactive communication
- Look for opportunities to make our client experience more personal, convenient, and memorable
Business Operations
- Maintain and monitor client orders from purchase through delivery
- Follow up with factories, clients, and the corporate office when needed
- Research client information and referrals
- Assist with occasional pickup and delivery of client items
- Help keep the Sales Professional organized and focused on selling and serving clients
Who We’re Looking For
Experience is helpful, but attitude, reliability, creativity, and initiative matter more.
The ideal candidate is:
- Dependable and detail-oriented
- Creative and comfortable contributing ideas
- Personable and professional
- Interested in sales, marketing, business, fashion, or entrepreneurship
- Comfortable with social media and digital content
- Able to work independently and follow through on commitments
- Curious and eager to learn
- Comfortable communicating with professionals and clients
- Interested in growing their responsibilities over time
- Available to begin immediately
The position is approximately 12 hours per week, generally during Monday–Friday business hours, with flexibility around class schedules. Starting pay is $17/hour. A reliable vehicle is required for occasional client-related pickups and deliveries. Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
We’re especially interested in someone looking for more than a semester-long internship. Our goal is to find students who want to grow with us, take on increasing responsibility, and become an important part of the business during their college career.
