Executive Function Department Head
Job Title: Lead Academic Coach & Executive Function Department Head (Part-Time / Hourly)
Location: Topsfield, MA (In-person at our Topsfield office)
Reports To: Meagan Sousa, Founder & CEO
About Parker River Tutoring:
Since 2010, Parker River Tutoring has taken a whole-student approach to education. We don't just focus on subject-matter; we focus on the lifelong skills—time management, organization, and anxiety reduction—that allow students to thrive independently. As our company grows, we are seeking an empathetic, highly organized educator to step into the role of Executive Function (EF) Department Head.
Position Overview:
The EF Department Head is a hybrid role combining active, high-impact academic coaching with administrative leadership. You will lead our team of Academic Coaches and humanities/science tutors, curate our organizational and study-skills resources, and act as a primary point of contact for EF families.
Crucially, you will partner directly with our Math Department Head to coordinate holistic care plans for students who participate in both subject tutoring and executive function coaching. This is a part-time, hourly role with variable hours based on seasonal demand, working out of our Topsfield office.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Instructional Coaching (Direct Student Work):
- Maintain a small, high-impact roster of students, providing direct coaching in organization, planning backwards, time management, and study strategies.
-
Coach Mentorship & Resource Curation:
- Serve as the primary leader and mentor for our team of Academic Coaches and general subject/science tutors.
- Research, organize, and curate physical and digital executive functioning resources (planners, agenda books, time-tracking templates, study-space design guides).
- Step in to cover emergency or vacation absences for our coaching staff to ensure seamless service.
-
Family Liaison & Progress Tracking:
- Check in on EF student progress and communicate with parents to ensure study skills are successfully transferring to home and school.
-
Cross-Department Collaboration:
- Collaborate regularly with the Math Department Head to coordinate student transitions (e.g., identifying when an EF client has graduated to independent planning but needs focused math support, or when a math student needs an EF coach to help them manage their homework load).
-
Administrative Support:
- Support day-to-day office operations in Topsfield alongside the CEO.
Qualifications:
- The EF Specialist: A deep, passionate understanding of executive function challenges, ADHD, neurodivergent learning needs, and evidence-based coaching strategies (planning backwards, habit building, active study strategies).
- The Leader: Experience in academic coaching, special education, school counseling, or educational leadership.
- The Communicator: Exceptional emotional intelligence with the ability to guide parents through sensitive discussions and mentor tutors with varying backgrounds.
- Logistics: Ability to work on-site at our Topsfield, MA office.
