Position Overview

The City Kidz NexGen Animation Fellowship is a selective, hands-on professional development and production program designed for college students, recent graduates, and emerging creative professionals who are passionate about 3D animation, visual effects, environment creation, and digital production.

Fellows work alongside industry professionals and studio leadership on real-world animated productions while gaining practical experience within a professional animation pipeline. Participants contribute to active studio projects while developing advanced technical skills, building industry-ready portfolios, collaborating across production teams, and receiving mentorship from experienced professionals.

This Fellowship is designed to bridge the gap between education and the animation industry by providing meaningful experience in modern production workflows, cinematic storytelling, and emerging AI-assisted creative technologies.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on their area of specialization, Fellows may contribute to one or more of the following:

  • Character Rigging and Technical Animation
  • Character Modeling and Digital Sculpting
  • Environment Modeling and World Building
  • Matte Painting and Environment Design
  • Lighting, Look Development, and Rendering
  • Texturing, Shading, and Material Creation
  • Visual Effects (VFX) and Simulation
  • Grooming (Hair and Fur)
  • Unreal Engine and Real-Time Production Pipelines
  • Layout and Cinematic Scene Assembly
  • Asset Optimization and Production Pipeline Support
  • Production Collaboration Across Modeling, Rigging, Animation, Lighting, and VFX Teams
  • Research and Integration of Emerging AI Production Tools

Ideal Candidates

We are seeking individuals who demonstrate:

  • Strong technical or artistic abilities in 3D production
  • Passion for animation, filmmaking, and visual storytelling
  • Experience with software such as Maya, Blender, Unreal Engine, Houdini, Substance Painter, ZBrush, or similar industry tools
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to receive feedback
  • Reliability, professionalism, and a commitment to meeting production deadlines
  • Alignment with the City Kidz mission of empowering the next generation through creativity, innovation, entrepreneurship, and storytelling

Fellowship Recognition

Fellows who successfully complete the program will receive the City Kidz NexGen Emerging Creative Leaders Fellowship Certificate, recognizing their professional growth, technical achievement, and meaningful contributions to City Kidz NexGen Animation Studios productions.

Compensation

This is a stipend-supported Fellowship. Stipend amounts vary based on each Fellow's experience, technical skills, project responsibilities, and overall contribution throughout the Fellowship. Exceptional Fellows may also be considered for future paid production opportunities with City Kidz NexGen Animation Studios.
