Position Purpose

The Director in Training (DIT) is an entry-level leadership position that provides practical, hands-on training in all aspects of managing a successful child care center. Under the guidance of the Operations Manager and experienced Site Directors, the DIT will learn the responsibilities of center leadership while ensuring a safe, nurturing, and high-quality learning environment for children.

Throughout the program, the Director in Training will serve as a positive role model for staff, uphold New Creations' culture and values, and support compliance with Minnesota Rule 3 licensing requirements and all company policies and procedures.

Upon successful completion of the training program, Directors in Training will be considered for placement as a Site Director or in another center leadership role as opportunities become available.

Primary Responsibilities

As training progresses, responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with daily center operations
  • Creating and managing staff and classroom schedules
  • Supporting curriculum implementation across classrooms
  • Monitoring compliance with Rule 3 licensing standards and correcting deficiencies
  • Maintaining student and staff records
  • Assisting with payroll, tuition, and administrative documentation
  • Supporting enrollment by conducting family tours and follow-up communication
  • Helping maintain appropriate staffing ratios and labor goals
  • Coaching and mentoring teachers through observation and feedback
  • Building positive relationships with children, families, and team members
  • Promoting a culture of professionalism, collaboration, continuous learning, and excellence

Education & Experience

Required Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Must meet Minnesota DCYF Rule 3 Teacher qualification requirements. Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions are required.
  • Current certification in Adult and Pediatric First Aid and CPR, or the ability to obtain certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Complete all required DCYF orientation and training requirements on the first day of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two to three years of experience as a Lead Teacher in an early childhood setting, or Two to three years of leadership or supervisory experience in a related field.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills with a passion for developing others.

Background Requirements

Employment is contingent upon successfully passing all required Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background studies and fingerprinting in accordance with state licensing regulations. Candidates must meet all eligibility requirements for employment in a licensed child care center.

  • Travel between New Creations locations as needed.
  • Stand, walk, and move throughout the day.
  • Sit on the floor and on child-sized furniture while interacting with children.
  • Frequently bend, kneel, squat, and stoop.
  • Lift, carry, and assist children, particularly in infant and toddler classrooms.
  • Move classroom furniture and equipment, including cots, tables, and learning materials.
  • Push strollers, buggies, and other equipment while supervising children.
  • Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions as part of daily programming.
  • Perform diapering, toileting, and other personal care responsibilities, including exposure to bodily fluids and other routine child care conditions.
  • Work in a busy, active environment with frequent exposure to elevated noise levels common in early childhood settings.
