About Us

Mateo Tutoring is a San Francisco-based tutoring and college advising company founded in 2020. We specialize in one-on-one academic support for students across all grade levels, built around each student's goals, learning preferences, and personality.

Our approach is what we call the Mateo Method: a three-stage process of Consultation, Pairing, and Scholar Growth. Every student is matched with an educator who fits them. Not just by subject, but by how they think, connect, and teach. We take that match seriously, and we want tutors who do too.

 

The Role

We are looking for Academic Tutors to join our growing team. Sessions are one-on-one, conducted weekly via Zoom or in-person, and scheduled around your availability.

We cover all grade levels and a wide range of subjects. Common areas include Math, English, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Spanish, but we love building a team with range. Whether you specialize in one subject or can confidently teach across several, there is a place for you here.

We do not hand tutors a fixed curriculum. Instead, we build personalized learning plans collaboratively. You and founder Lariel work together to design an approach tailored to that specific student. For students focused on keeping up with their coursework, sessions follow the student's existing school material. You will be paired with students whose needs, schedule, and personality align with yours. 

 

What We Are Looking For

  • Strong subject knowledge in at least one academic area
  • Genuine curiosity and the ability to connect with students
  • Patience, warmth, and a non-judgmental approach
  • Reliability and clear communication
  • Currently enrolled in or a graduate of a four-year university

 

Compensation

Starting at $25/hour. Sessions are conducted weekly on an hourly basis.
