GAPP Academic Support Coordinator

GAPP Academic Tutor & Student Support Assistant

Position Overview

We are looking for a responsible and organized Academic Tutor & Student Support Assistant to support international students participating in the Global Academic Pathway Program (GAPP).

This position will work closely with GAPP staff and students to provide academic tutoring, monitor students' academic progress, and assist students with their day-to-day academic responsibilities. The ideal candidate is patient, dependable, comfortable working with international students, and able to communicate clearly in an academic environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide individual and small-group tutoring and mentoring for GAPP students.

Assist students with assignments, course materials, study strategies, and exam preparation.

Help students understand assignment instructions, deadlines, and professor expectations.

Monitor students' academic progress, attendance, assignments, and upcoming deadlines.

Conduct regular academic check-ins with students.

Help students organize their schedules and prioritize assignments and academic responsibilities.

Review student work and provide guidance on writing, presentations, and general coursework.

Encourage students to communicate appropriately with professors, advisors, and college staff when needed.

Identify students who may be struggling academically and communicate concerns to GAPP staff.

Maintain regular communication with the GAPP Operations Manager regarding student progress and concerns.

Assist with other student-support and program-related tasks as needed.

Qualifications

Current college student or bachelor's degree holder preferred.

Strong English communication and writing skills.

Strong academic background and ability to tutor college-level students.

Responsible, organized, patient, and dependable.

Comfortable working closely with international students.

Able to manage multiple students and keep track of assignments and deadlines.

Familiarity with US colleges, Canvas, or other learning management systems is preferred.

Previous tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or student-support experience is preferred.

Preferred Skills

Experience working with international or ESL students.

Strong writing and communication skills.

Ability to tutor general education subjects such as English, mathematics, social sciences, or other college-level courses.

Familiarity with community college and UC academic environments is a plus.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is proactive and comfortable following up with students rather than simply waiting for students to ask for help. The assistant should be able to build positive relationships with students while also keeping them accountable for attendance, assignments, deadlines, and overall academic progress.
