The studio of internationally recognized land artist Alan Sonfist is seeking a talented and creatively minded Part-Time Studio Illustrator & Painter. This position is ideal for an aspiring young artist, illustrator, or painter looking to gain firsthand experience working directly with an established artist and within a professional art studio.
About the Role
The primary focus of the position will be creating hand-drawn illustrations, sketches, studies, and paintings based on ideas and concepts developed in the studio. The ideal candidate should have strong observational and hand-drafting skills and be confident working across a variety of traditional mediums. The ability to take an idea and translate it into a clear, thoughtful, and visually compelling image is especially important.
The role may also include assisting with visual concepts for environmental artworks, sculpture, exhibitions, publications, and other creative projects, as well as research, artwork documentation, and general studio projects.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an emerging artist with a strong visual sensibility, excellent drawing skills, and an interest in developing a professional artistic practice. Candidates should be creative, curious, reliable, organized, and comfortable working independently.
Experience with drawing, painting, illustration, architecture, or design is helpful, but a strong portfolio demonstrating confident hand-drafting and artistic ability is most important.
