Content Editor
Content Editor (Internet Culture)
Stareable · Remote · 25–50% time · $30–$60/hour
The two biggest movies in America right now were made by YouTubers in their twenties - one of them beat Star Wars on a $10 million budget. The best creators are working on YouTube in small ultra-talented teams that are shaping internet culture. We're looking for the next editor superstar who thinks in online formats, not film school.
The gig
We make comedy on social media about everyday life and the tech circus - San Francisco, AI hype, founder culture, and whatever the tech world of the internet is obsessed with this week. Tech knowledge is not needed - the comedy comes first and tech is the vehicle. We think in satire and formats, not explainers with jokes sprinkled on top.
- Edit our short form videos end-to-end with the fast-paced style that Instagram and YouTube Shorts demands. We are impressed with videos like this and this
- Track what's working on Instagram (daily) and YouTube (regularly) and translate trends into concrete format suggestions for our scripts
- Work backwards - since you know what is needed for a great edit, advise us on the shooting style we should use
- The hard part: our videos have to make a 22-year-old employee send it to the group chat and make their middle-aged boss laugh too
For the right person, the role could grow into producer and director responsibilities:
- For larger YouTube productions, multicam, and studio shoots:
- Plan and coordinate shoots with external producers and crew
- Find shooting locations, actors, camera people, lighting, sound
- Source props and provide art direction
- 2D motion graphics creation and B-roll content research
You
- Are funny in a way you can prove - sketches, memes, edits, scripts, an account that popped off
- Can explain the reasons behind what you made: hooks, retention, why it spread
- Follow content and editing trends closely enough to mimic or parody them - you know what "6-7", Italian brainrot, and a TikTok gallery video are
- Have comedy instincts: timing, escalation, knowing when a bit is dead
- Edit confidently (Premiere, CapCut or DaVinci - the tool matters less than the result)
- Communicate reliably in a remote setup, especially when coordinating shoots with others
- No degree needed. You have proof you can already do the job.
Not you if
- Your portfolio is "posted for a brand" with nothing that actually made anyone laugh
- Your idea of tech comedy is adding a meme sound to a news clip \
- You need a storyboard before you can start
How to apply - this IS the application
No cover letter.
- Your greatest hits: 2 to 3 links to the funniest videos you edited. For each one, write a few sentences explaining why it works and what you'd change now.
- Someone else's banger: pick any comedy video on YouTube you thought was genuinely well done and funny. Describe the core of what makes its format, style, and tone work in only 3 to 4 sentences
