RESULTS Organizing and Advocacy Fellowship

The RESULTS Organizing and Advocacy Fellowship is a professional development opportunity for emerging leaders who want to strengthen their communication, leadership, relationship-building, and public policy advocacy skills while learning how to influence the federal policymaking process.

The need for this kind of experience is especially important for young adults. The Spring 2026 Harvard Youth Poll found that 50% of young Americans ages 18–29 agree that “people like me don't have any say about what the government does,” an increase of 15 percentage points since 2017. The poll also found historically low levels of trust in the federal government, highlighting a growing sense among young adults that their voices do not influence the decisions that affect their lives.

The RESULTS Fellowship is designed to help change that experience.

Through the Fellowship, participants learn how government decisions are made and, more importantly, how individuals and communities can participate in shaping those decisions. Fellows receive hands-on training in congressional advocacy and learn how to build professional relationships with members of Congress and congressional staff, communicate effectively about public policy, prepare for and participate in congressional meetings, make persuasive policy requests, and follow up strategically to build lasting relationships.

Rather than simply learning about civic engagement, Fellows practice it. Participants have opportunities to engage directly with congressional offices while advocating on issues related to poverty in the United States and globally. In the process, they develop transferable professional skills including public speaking, strategic communication, policy analysis, meeting preparation, teamwork, leadership, networking, and relationship management.

The Fellowship is particularly valuable for students and recent graduates interested in careers in public policy, government, nonprofit leadership, international development, communications, advocacy, community organizing, public affairs, or other fields where the ability to communicate, build relationships, and influence decision-makers is essential.

At a time when many young adults question whether they have a meaningful voice in government, the RESULTS Fellowship gives emerging leaders an opportunity to learn how congressional advocacy actually works, practice those skills in real-world settings, and discover how their voices can become part of the policymaking process.
