Biomedical & Dental Equipment Support Technician (Richmond, VA)

MedServ Marketplace is a flexible, project-based platform — often described as the “Uber for Biomed Techs” — that connects skilled BMETs, field engineers, and semi-skilled technicians with health systems, ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), and OEMs for high-impact assignments.

We are currently staffing a certified multi-vendor biomedical, dental, and laboratory field service engagement to support the Richmond, VA. This contract delivers turn-key preventive maintenance (PM), electrical safety testing (NFPA 99 / ANSI/AAMI EQ89), NIST-traceable calibration, and digital compliance reporting across a baseline inventory of 152 listed medical, dental, laboratory, and cold storage assets.

Project Dates: Sep 1, 2026 – Aug 31, 2027 (Approximately 10-12 days, including weekend/weekday coordination)

Term: 12-Month Contract (Effective Sep 1, 2026 – Aug 31, 2027)

Schedule: Part-Time / Flexible On-Demand Dispatch & Scheduled PM Windows

Location: Richmond, VA (Onsite Clinic)

We welcome certified BMETs, experienced field service technicians, and clinical engineering professionals with direct expertise in sterile processing equipment and surgical suite infrastructure.

Assigned technicians will execute OEM-compliant annual preventive maintenance, electrical safety inspections, functional verifications, and calibration across clinical primary care devices, specialized dental operatory systems, CRES-certified imaging units, laboratory benchtop equipment, and vaccine cold storage refrigeration.

Primary Responsibilities & Asset Scope

1. Fixed Onsite Biomedical & Clinical Equipment (41 Assets):

Perform annual PM, electrical safety testing (NFPA 99 & ANSI/AAMI EQ89:2015), grounding checks, and compliance sticker tagging for Midmark 626 exam/procedure chairs, Welch Allyn Connex spot/vital signs monitors, rolling CP150 EKG machines, Welch Allyn GS 777 wall-mounted diagnostic systems, and Zoll AED Plus defibrillators.

2. Dental Radiography & CRES Imaging Systems (5 Assets):

Execute CRES-certified annual radiation safety inspections, tube $kVp/mA$ output verification, exposure timer calibration, gantry/scissor arm drift adjustments, and driver stability checks.

Issue Virginia Department of Health (VDH) radiological compliance certifications for the DEXIS OP3D Panoramic X-Ray System (1 unit) and Provecta HD Intraoral X-Ray Units (4 units).

3. Dental Treatment Chairs, Delivery Units & Support Tools (18 Assets):

Perform annual mechanical, hydraulic, air/water utility line purging, junction box inspection, and electrical safety PM for Midmark Elevance treatment chairs and LR Procenter delivery systems.

Conduct annual functional inspections, water flow purging, and ISO 11143 compliance verifications for Midmark QC3-01 autoclaves, Cavitron ultrasonic scalers, model trimmers, vacuum formers, dental lathes, KaVo QUATTROcare units, and Solmetex amalgam separators.

4. Batch Dental Handpiece Maintenance (80 KaVo Units):

Execute batch service and maintenance for high/low-speed KaVo dental handpieces, attachments, endo heads, and MULTIflex couplings (SURGtorque, MASTERtorque, EXPERTmatic, SMARTmatic, PROPHYwiz). Includes mechanical deep cleaning, internal line flushing, chuck tension testing, seal/O-ring checks, fiber optic light output verification, and drive rotation testing.

5. Clinical Vaccine & Pharmacy Cold Storage (6 Assets):

Perform digital RTD temperature probe calibration, multi-point temperature verification, high/low alarm threshold testing, condenser coil cleaning, door gasket inspection, and backup battery health checks across Thermo Fisher TSX, Temp Armour, and Corepoint undercounter/countertop vaccine and pharmacy refrigerators and freezers.

6. Laboratory Analyzers, Centrifuges & Scales (27 Assets):

Lab Analyzers & Centrifuges (4 Units): Perform optical path cleaning, digital tachometer RPM verification, timer accuracy checks, and lid-lock interlock safety tests on Unico CB56 PowerSpin centrifuges, Siemens Clinitek Status+, DCA Vantage, and Abbott ID NOW lab analyzers.

Medical & Lab Scales (3 Units): Perform multi-point step-calibrations using certified Class F NIST-traceable weights, zero/tare adjustments, and load cell structural checks on SR Instruments standard, pediatric, and wall-mount wheelchair scales.

Sphygmomanometers & Oximeters (16 Units): Conduct pneumatic system leak testing, gauge zero-point verification, and $SpO_2$ sensor response testing on handheld blood pressure aneroid gauges, McKesson wall/pocket cuffs, and ZacVrate/Contec pulse oximeters.

Lab Printers & Accessories (3 Units): Perform thermal print-head cleaning, drive mechanism lubrication, and vacuum pressure verification ($mmHg$) on Intermec RPMS label printers, Abbott printers, and Ametek Powervac units.

7. Compliance, Digital Reporting & NIST Traceability:

Utilize ISO/IEC 17025 accredited, NIST-traceable calibration test instruments (e.g., Fluke electrical safety analyzers, RaySafe radiation meters, Class F weights).

Apply durable, chemical-resistant physical PM compliance stickers (including test date, due date, technician initials, and pass/fail status) or "DO NOT USE" safety hazard tags on failed equipment.

Complete thorough digital Field Service Reports (FSRs) and calibration certificates within 5 calendar days of visit completion via the MedServ Portal to maintain 100% audit-readiness for AAAHC, IHS, and Joint Commission standards.

Candidate Qualifications & Requirements

Experience: Minimum 3–5+ years of hands-on clinical engineering, biomedical equipment maintenance, or field service experience (Senior BMET II/III or CRES Specialist preferred).

Education & Certifications:

Associate Degree or formal Technical Certification in Biomedical Equipment Technology (BMET) or military BMET equivalent (U.S. Air Force/Tri-Service BMET graduate highly regarded).

Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) or Certified Radiology Equipment Specialist (CRES) credentials preferred.

Active Virginia Department of Health (VDH) radiation safety licensing required for dental radiography imaging assignments.

NFPA 99 Healthcare Facilities Electrical Safety Inspector certification preferred.

OEM System Experience: Direct experience servicing Midmark, Welch Allyn, KaVo, DEXIS, Steris, Thermo Fisher, and Zoll medical/dental equipment.

Work Authorization: Must possess valid U.S. work authorization.

Background & Security: Must successfully complete a 10-panel drug screening and criminal background check as required for federal facility access.

Independent Equipment: Must provide standard hand tools and ISO/IEC 17025 accredited, NIST-traceable calibrated test equipment (Fluke safety analyzer, radiation meter, etc.).

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly Labor Rate: $100.00 / hour 

Travel Rate: $50.00 / hour for approved travel time.

Compensation

  • Rate: $65 – $110 / hour (Commensurate with experience and location/travel requirements)
