Freelance Garden Design & Creative Assistant

Freelance Garden Design & Creative Assistant

Gardyn-Doulah | Columbia, Maryland | Hybrid / Project-Based

Compensation: $25–$35/hour or an agreed project rate, depending on experience and scope
Schedule: Flexible, project-based work with no guaranteed weekly hours

About Gardyn-Doulah

Gardyn-Doulah is a garden design and education business that helps individuals and communities create regenerative, intentional outdoor spaces through ecological garden design, coaching, and stewardship.

The Opportunity

Gardyn-Doulah is looking for a creative and reliable freelance assistant to support the production of client garden designs and related visual materials.

This is not a traditional internship or regularly scheduled position. Work will be offered as client projects become available. Some months may have several assignments, while others may have little or no work.

The primary focus is design production and visual communication. I am looking for someone who already has foundational graphic-design skills and can take design direction, site information, sketches, photographs, measurements, plant information, and existing Gardyn-Doulah materials and turn them into polished client-ready deliverables.

You do not need to be a permaculture expert, but an interest in gardening, plants, ecological design, or landscape design is strongly preferred.

Potential Projects

Assignments may include:

Creating and refining garden design graphics

Developing site layouts

Formatting plant plans, garden guides, and client presentations

Translating rough sketches and design direction into polished visual plans

Revising designs based on client feedback

Creating diagrams, icons, labels, and other supporting graphics

Organizing photographs and visual materials for client projects

Occasionally creating Canva carousels, flyers, or other Gardyn-Doulah marketing materials

Occasional site documentation, photography, measurements, or plant inventory when needed

The majority of work will center on garden-design production.
