About Sharp Pen Media
Sharp Pen is a marketing and communications agency for adtech companies. Our 10-person team supports 20 clients across marketing strategy, content, and PR.
Our team is mostly composed of people who did not study marketing and communications or hold roles in the field before joining the organization. Four of us are literature PhDs; three of us are former journalists. We prize writing aptitude, hard work, and initiative.
The Role
We’re hiring a Communications Specialist to help shape and advance clients’ public narratives across content and communications. You’ll join client calls, identify strong ideas and story angles, and turn them into polished, effective work.
This is a fast-paced, client-facing role for someone who combines excellent writing with sharp communications instincts. You will operate with a Driver mindset: take ownership, make sound decisions, keep work moving, and turn ambiguity into clear next steps.
This is an entry point into a meaningful career path at a growing agency. Strong performers can quickly earn broader client responsibility, strategic ownership, and account leadership opportunities. You won’t be in the proverbial mail room. You’ll be talking to CEOs of large companies from day one. Past candidates for this role have grown from zero marketing experience to positions of leadership within 12-18 months of employment.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Attend client calls—typically 3–4 per day—to capture insights, develop story ideas, and identify opportunities.
- Produce social posts, op-eds, newsletters, reports, thought-leadership articles, and other client content.
- Support PR work, including media outreach, pitch development, press materials, and opportunity tracking.
- Adapt to each client’s voice, priorities, and narrative strategy; edit work for clarity, accuracy, and impact.
- Keep projects, feedback, and handoffs organized in Asana while collaborating closely with account leads.
What We’re Looking For
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with clear, concise, confident prose.
- Strong communications judgment: you can identify what is newsworthy, persuasive, or worth elevating.
- A high-ownership, execution-oriented approach; you anticipate needs, move work forward, and raise issues early.
- Comfort working quickly across competing priorities; some deliverables require turnaround in under an hour.
- Professional client presence, strong attention to detail, and availability during 9–5 p.m. ET (or 8 a.m.–4 p.m. PT). B2B communications, PR, adtech, agency, or executive ghostwriting experience is a plus.

- Interview
- Contractor trial (duration pending candidate)
- Full-time hire, if the trial is a mutual fit
