Creative Strategist for $2mm/MRR Ecom Company
The Opportunity
We're a bootstrapped DTC subscription brand doing ~$3M/month across ~55,000 active subscribers. Our products help women with hair, anti-aging, and skincare. We sell primarily through Meta ads, with native, YouTube, TikTok, and Google as secondary channels.
Creative is our #1 growth lever. Full stop. We're hiring a recent grad to train into a Creative Strategist role — the person who decides what our video ads say, how they look, and why they'll stop someone mid-scroll.
Here's the honest pitch against your other offers:
Consulting or banking: You'll build decks and models for two years before anyone lets you make a decision. Here, your ideas go live with real ad spend behind them within your first month, and you'll see the revenue they generate the same week.
Big-brand marketing rotational program: You'll spend 18 months learning one slice of one function at a company where nobody can tell you what any campaign actually made. Here, you'll learn the entire pipeline — hook theory, scripting, funnel psychology, media buying data, editor management — inside 12 months, with direct feedback from a P&L, not a brand tracker.
This is direct response marketing: the craft of making ads that measurably, provably make money. It's the highest-leverage skill set in marketing and almost nobody teaches it. We will. You'll work directly under a senior strategist who currently runs all four of our product funnels, and within a year you'll be running two of them yourself.
This is not a brand advertising role. There are no mood boards. Every ad we make either takes spend profitably or gets killed, and you'll know which within 72 hours.
Compensation
- Base: $60,000–$85,000/year depending on writing samples, trial performance, and demonstrated skills
- Performance bonuses tied to ad spend scaling and efficiency metrics — you help us spend more profitably, you get paid more. Expected first-year on-target earnings: $95,000–$150,000+
- Fully remote, direct mentorship from a senior strategist and the founder
- The final stage of our process is a short paid trial project — you'll write real briefs on real products, and we'll both know within a week whether this works
What You'll Actually Do
Your first 90 days (the ramp):
- Weeks 1–4: Train under our senior strategist. Learn hook theory, our funnel architecture, and how to read a Meta dashboard (CAC, CPC, CTR, hook rate, hold rate). Shadow the full creative pipeline from brief to launch. Reverse-engineer 100+ winning ads from our vertical and others.
- Weeks 5–8: Write your first scripts — target 5 concepts/week — with every brief reviewed and marked up before it goes to editors. Start running QA reviews alongside the senior strategist.
- Weeks 9–12: Scale to 10+ concepts/week, take ownership of QA for your own briefs, and begin coordinating directly with editors.
At full ramp (month 4+), the job is:
- Write 13–20 net unique video ad concepts per week across our product funnels (hair, anti-aging, gummies, skincare). Net unique means genuinely different — a UGC ad, a podcast clip, an AI avatar interview, a skit, an ingredient animation, a street interview. Not five variations of the same talking head.
- Own creative from idea to launch-ready asset. Concept, script, and QA short-form video ads (1–3 minutes) for Meta, native, and YouTube. Build briefs that give editors everything they need to execute.
- QA is 50% of this job. Frame-by-frame review of every video before it goes live. You'll send ads back to editors 2–3 times until they're perfect — caption sizing, image mismatches, pacing, transitions, audio sync. If you're the kind of person who notices a 2px misalignment in a friend's Instagram story, you'll thrive. If not, this role will eat you alive.
- Manage 3–5 video editors (Philippines and Brazil-based) and coordinate with UGC creators. Clear briefs, firm deadlines, tracked revision rates. You'll be trained on this — but you need the spine for it.
- Spy relentessly. The best strategists are obsessive about knowing what's working — in our vertical and far outside it. You're scrolling ad libraries, spy tools, and organic content daily because you can't help it. Our best concepts come from finding a validated angle in our space and layering in a format from a completely different vertical.
- Read performance data and adjust. If an ad isn't taking spend, the answer is in the numbers, and your next brief should reflect it.
Who We're Looking For
You don't need ad experience. You need the raw material. Specifically:
- You graduated (2024–2026) from a strong US university with a real academic or extracurricular track record. We don't care about your major — English, econ, psych, film, CS, whatever. We care that you competed at something and won: varsity athletics, debate, a campus business, a publication, a 3.8 in a hard program. Show us evidence you can grind at a high standard.
- You can write. This is non-negotiable. The job is fundamentally persuasive writing under constraints. If you've written for a campus publication, run a Substack, grown a personal account, or just have samples that make people feel something in the first line — we want to see them.
- You're a content native. You've spent thousands of hours on TikTok, Reels, and YouTube, and you have opinions about why some videos hold you and others don't. You can articulate what a good hook does in the first 3 seconds, even if you've never heard the term "hook rate." We can teach the vocabulary. We can't teach the instinct.
- You're obsessive about details. You catch the things 95% of people miss. Typos physically bother you.
- You have a high-output mentality. This is not a 9-to-5. When we're pushing a launch, you're grinding 10–12 hour days because you treat this like a craft, not a job. If you're looking for work-life balance in year one of your career, there are easier paths — take them.
- You're coachable. You'll get direct, blunt feedback daily, especially in the first six months. If you need your work praised before it's critiqued, this isn't the environment.
- You're actually present. Real-time collaboration on Slack with editors, media buyers, and the senior strategist during US Eastern hours. AI is a tool to help you move faster, not a replacement for doing the work — and we can tell the difference.
Location: Remote, but you must work US Eastern hours and be responsive on Slack. Opportunity to move to either Miami or NYC and work out of either of those two offices, depending on performance.
A note on fit: No side hustles, no freelance clients, no "building my personal brand in parallel." This is a full-time, all-in role. In exchange, we'll compress five years of marketing education into one.
How to apply: Fill out the application / apply here. Include writing samples — anything. Essays, tweets, a Substack, scripts, a funny group chat message you're proud of. We're hiring for the writing and the instinct, and the samples matter more than the resume.
We review applications on a rolling basis. Strong applications hear back within a few days.
No recruiters. No agencies. Direct applicants only.
