Backend Growth Associate for $2mm/MRR Ecom Company

Backend Growth & Lifecycle Associate

The Opportunity

We’re a bootstrapped DTC subscription company doing approximately $3 million per month across roughly 55,000 active subscribers. Our products help women with hair growth, anti-aging, skincare and wellness.

We are hiring an exceptional recent graduate to train into a Backend Growth and Lifecycle role—the person responsible for generating more revenue and profit from the customers we already have.

You will learn how to:

Turn a customer list into a disciplined email and SMS revenue engine.

Create promotions, bundles, cross-sells and product-launch campaigns.

Improve subscription retention and recover failed payments.

Merchandise an ecommerce store and build better post-purchase experiences.

Analyze customer behavior, cohort performance and offer economics.

Coordinate copywriters, designers, developers, customer service and operations.

Take an idea from hypothesis to live campaign to collected revenue.

Here’s the honest pitch against your other offers:

Consulting or banking: You’ll spend two years building decks and models before anyone lets you own a commercial result. Here, you will launch campaigns and offers to hundreds of thousands of customers, see what they generate and become directly accountable for the outcome.

Big-brand marketing rotational program: You’ll spend 18 months learning one narrow slice of a company where attribution is vague and decisions move through six layers of approval. Here, you’ll learn the entire customer lifecycle—from first purchase through onboarding, rebill, cross-sell, cancellation and winback—inside your first year.

Traditional entry-level marketing role: You may be asked to schedule emails, prepare reports and execute someone else’s calendar. Here, the goal is to develop you into the person who creates the calendar, decides what we sell, coordinates the launch and explains whether it actually made money.

This is direct-response lifecycle marketing: the craft of turning customer insight, persuasive communication, offers and data into measurable revenue.

It is one of the most commercially valuable skill sets in consumer business, and very few companies teach it properly. We will.

You’ll work directly with TFO’s operating leadership and founder. At first, you will receive extensive training and feedback. As you demonstrate judgment and reliability, you will progressively take ownership of email, SMS, backend offers, product launches, retention initiatives and storefront merchandising.

The intended path is:

Backend Growth & Lifecycle Associate → Backend Growth Manager → Head of Lifecycle Growth

This is not a social-media, brand-awareness or content-calendar role. Every campaign has an audience, an offer, an economic purpose and a measurable result.

Compensation

Base salary: $60,000–$85,000 per year, depending on writing samples, analytical ability, trial performance and demonstrated skills.

Performance bonuses based on a defined percentage of qualifying incremental backend revenue you generate. This includes collected revenue from campaigns, lifecycle flows, backend offers, cross-sells and product launches, measured against agreed attribution rules and adjusted for refunds and chargebacks.

Expected first-year on-target earnings: $95,000–$150,000+.

Fully remote, with direct mentorship from company leadership and the founder.

The final stage of the hiring process is a short paid trial project based on real TFO products and customer data.

The principle is simple: if your work generates substantial additional revenue for the company, you should participate in the upside.

What You’ll Actually Do

Your first 90 days

Weeks 1–4: Learn the business

Learn our products, customer avatars, offers and subscription model.

Understand the economics of acquisition, contribution margin, rebills, churn, refunds and chargebacks.

Learn our ecommerce, email, SMS, subscription and analytics systems.

Map the customer journey from initial purchase through onboarding, rebill, cross-sell, cancellation and winback.

Audit our existing campaigns, lifecycle flows, customer segments and backend offers.

Study successful promotions and lifecycle programs from TFO and other leading consumer brands.

Identify and prioritize the ten largest backend growth opportunities you find.

Weeks 5–8: Begin shipping

Help maintain the weekly email and SMS promotional calendar.

Build, schedule and QA campaigns under supervision.

Develop campaign concepts, promotional angles, customer segments and offer ideas.

Brief copywriters and designers or produce initial campaign copy yourself.

Assist with lifecycle-flow, bundle, cross-sell and retention tests.

Learn how to evaluate performance using collected revenue and contribution—not just platform attribution.

Begin coordinating store changes with developers and conducting desktop and mobile QA.

Weeks 9–12: Take ownership of routine execution

Independently run the routine weekly campaign process.

Own QA for your campaigns, including audiences, links, pricing, discounts, tracking, exclusions and mobile presentation.

Launch at least two meaningful campaign, flow or segmentation experiments per month.

Maintain the backend calendar, development backlog and experiment registry.

Produce a concise weekly report explaining what shipped, what happened and what we should do next.

Begin coordinating backend execution for product launches and seasonal promotions.

At full ramp, the job is:

Own the email and SMS revenue calendar. Plan and launch weekly campaigns across our product portfolio. Develop reasons to communicate with customers beyond repetitive percentage-off promotions.

Build the customer lifecycle. Improve welcome, post-purchase, product-education, replenishment, rebill-reminder, cross-sell, winback, failed-payment and cancellation-prevention flows.

Create backend offers. Develop bundles, cross-sells, upsells, gifts, seasonal promotions and existing-customer offers that increase customer value without destroying margin or trust.

Run backend product launches. Coordinate the customer segments, campaign sequence, offer, store setup, creative assets, inventory confirmation, customer-service briefing, tracking, QA and post-launch reporting.

Improve retention and payment recovery. Analyze why customers cancel, fail payments or request refunds. Turn those findings into better onboarding, education, rebill communication, save treatments and winback campaigns.

Own storefront merchandising. Brief and QA changes to product pages, collections, promotional pages, bundles, post-purchase offers, banners, account experiences and the subscription portal.

Coordinate developers and creative resources. You do not need to write code or design every asset yourself. You do need to write clear requirements, set deadlines, catch errors and ensure the finished work achieves its commercial purpose.

Analyze performance honestly. Separate clicks and attributed revenue from incremental collected revenue. Understand what happened, why it happened and what we should scale, revise or stop.

Become the backend point guard. Keep marketing, operations, customer service, inventory, copy, design and development aligned so campaigns and launches ship without the founder chasing every dependency.

How You’ll Be Measured

As you ramp, your scorecard will include:

Incremental collected revenue generated by email and SMS.

Revenue and contribution generated by offers, bundles, launches, upsells and cross-sells.

Improvements in voluntary churn, failed-payment recovery and customer winback.

Percentage of campaigns, tests and launches shipped accurately and on schedule.

Speed and quality of store and backend-infrastructure improvements.

Quality of your analysis and experimental recommendations.

Reduction in executive intervention required to ship backend initiatives.

You will not be rewarded for sending the most emails or claiming the most platform-attributed revenue. You will be rewarded for producing profitable, collected revenue through work that would not have happened without you.

Who We’re Looking For

You do not need email, SMS or ecommerce experience. You need the raw material to become excellent at the work.

Specifically:

You graduated between 2024 and 2026 from a strong US university with a meaningful academic, professional or extracurricular track record. We do not care much about your major. Economics, English, psychology, statistics, computer science, history and philosophy can all work.

You have evidence that you act on the world. You started something, sold something, led an organization, published your work, competed seriously, conducted difficult research or taught yourself a valuable skill. A prestigious degree with nothing but coursework is not enough.

You can write clearly. You can organize complicated information, make an argument and communicate without vague corporate language.

You are comfortable with numbers. You can reason through percentages, unit economics and basic business problems. You do not need advanced finance knowledge, but revenue, profit and contribution cannot feel interchangeable to you.

You have commercial instinct. You naturally think about what customers want, why they buy, how an offer could be stronger and whether an initiative is economically worthwhile.

You learn unusually quickly. You absorb new concepts, apply feedback and rarely need the same thing explained twice.

You are obsessive about details. You catch incorrect prices, broken links, audience mistakes, inconsistent terms and presentation problems before customers see them.

You are technically curious. New software does not intimidate you. You can learn how systems connect, investigate why something is not working and communicate effectively with developers.

You have a high-output mentality. This is not a passive 9-to-5 training program. When we are preparing an important launch, you may work 10–12-hour days because the result matters and the deadline is real.

You are resourceful. When you encounter something unfamiliar, your first response is to investigate and attempt to solve it—not immediately hand the problem to someone else.

You are coachable and intellectually honest. You will receive direct, specific feedback. You must be able to admit when you are wrong, revise your work and improve quickly.

You are actually present. You will collaborate in real time with leadership, marketers, developers, designers and operations during US Eastern hours.

We are looking for someone who wants an unusual amount of responsibility early in their career and is willing to earn it through exceptional execution.

This Role Is Probably Not for You If

You want a prestigious-looking strategy role but consider execution beneath you.

You need every assignment fully defined before you can begin.

You enjoy marketing but dislike spreadsheets, QA or operational detail.

You want to work only on creative campaigns and not on systems, retention or analytics.

You believe attributed revenue automatically proves that a campaign worked.

You need feedback softened or your work praised before it is criticized.

You are primarily optimizing for work-life balance during your first professional year.

You want to maintain freelance clients, a side business or a personal brand alongside the role.

Location and Working Style

The role is remote, but you must work US Eastern hours and remain responsive on Slack during the workday.

There may be an opportunity to work from or relocate to New York City or Miami based on performance and the company’s office footprint.

AI is a tool we expect you to use intelligently. It can help you research, analyze and move faster. It cannot replace original judgment, careful QA or personal ownership—and we can tell the difference.

A Note on Fit

This is a full-time, all-in role.

No freelance clients. No competing ecommerce projects. No building a personal agency on the side. We are making a serious investment in teaching you how a scaled consumer company acquires, monetizes and retains customers, and we expect a serious commitment in return.

For the right person, this role can compress five years of commercial and marketing education into one.

How to Apply

Complete the application and include samples that demonstrate how you think.

These do not need to be traditional marketing samples. You can submit:

An essay, research paper or analytical memo.

A newsletter, Substack or published article.

A business, ecommerce or campus project.

A spreadsheet or analysis you are proud of.

A promotion, event or organization you helped grow.

Anything else that demonstrates clear thinking, persuasive communication, commercial instinct or exceptional execution.

Explain exactly what you personally contributed and what happened as a result.

We review applications on a rolling basis. Strong applicants will hear from us within a few days.

The final stage is a short paid project based on a real product and backend-growth problem. It will test your research, commercial thinking, writing, analytical reasoning and attention to detail.

No recruiters. No agencies. Direct applicants only.
