Part-Time Junior Interior Designer — Design & Project Support

YDC Design | Hybrid: New York City, Long Island & Remote
$34–$38 per hour, commensurate with relevant experience

About YDC Design

YDC Design is a full-service luxury residential interior design studio serving New York City, Long Island, the Hamptons, New Jersey, and beyond.

Our work combines quiet modern luxury with a research-informed approach to lighting, acoustics, materials, spatial flow, and well-being through our signature NeuroSensory Design methodology.

As a small, collaborative studio, we offer meaningful exposure to every stage of the design process—from sourcing and specification through procurement, installation, and final styling.

Position Overview

YDC Design is seeking a resourceful, organized, and design-minded Part-Time Junior Interior Designer to support the studio’s day-to-day project work.

The primary focus of this role is behind-the-scenes design and project support, including order tracking, vendor communication, client presentations, FF&E documentation, sample requests, sourcing, and project organization.

The position will also include occasional on-site days for installations, deliveries, project walk-throughs, inspections, and styling. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable preparing a polished presentation, following up with a vendor, organizing samples, and assisting practically on-site when needed.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career designer who wants direct experience within a growing luxury residential design studio.

Immediate availability requirement: Candidates must be available to work on-site in New York City from Tuesday, September 22 through Thursday, September 24. These are mandatory, full on-site installation days.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Presentation Support

  • Assist with preparing and refining client presentations, mood boards, and finish palettes.
  • Source furniture, lighting, artwork, accessories, and materials according to the studio’s design direction.
  • Gather product specifications, dimensions, pricing, lead times, and finish options.
  • Create and maintain FF&E schedules, specification sheets, and selection documents.
  • Assist with basic drawings, elevations, and digital renderings when needed.
  • Ensure that client-facing materials are polished, accurate, and consistent with YDC’s visual standards.

Procurement & Order Tracking

  • Request quotes, samples, tear sheets, finish options, and product information from vendors.
  • Track orders, production timelines, shipping, receiving, and delivery dates.
  • Follow up proactively with vendors, showrooms, workrooms, and receivers.
  • Maintain accurate order statuses and flag delays, damages, discrepancies, or missing information.
  • Organize order confirmations, invoices, tracking details, and installation requirements.
  • Assist with entering and updating project information in Studio Designer and shared tracking documents.

Project Coordination

  • Prepare meeting notes, action lists, installation lists, and punch lists.
  • Coordinate appointments, deliveries, vendor visits, and sample pickups.
  • Organize digital project files and the physical materials library.
  • Support communication among vendors, trades, receivers, installers, and the YDC team.
  • Anticipate next steps and follow through on outstanding items without repeated prompting.

On-Site & Installation Support

  • Attend occasional site visits, installations, deliveries, and project walk-throughs.
  • Assist with receiving, inspecting, unpacking, organizing, and placing furnishings and accessories.
  • Photograph and document deliveries, damages, deficiencies, and completed work.
  • Help protect finished surfaces and maintain a clean, organized job site.
  • Assist with styling and final project presentation.
