Robotics Test Engineering Intern – MRI & Robotics
Location: San Francisco
Type: Internship (Full-time/Part-time)
Department: Engineering and Product Development
About the job
neuro42 is a San Francisco-based medical technology company pioneering point-of-care MRI and robotics solutions for diagnosis and interventions of neurological conditions. Our vision is to empower neurophysicians with advanced visualization and guidance technologies that enable best-in-class treatment for their patients.
We are developing a surgical robot designed to operate inside an MRI environment, where precision, reliability, and repeatability are critical. We are looking for an engineering intern interested in hands-on testing of electronics, embedded systems, and robotic hardware.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build automated test solutions across software and hardware to evaluate and validate electronics performance.
- Use oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and DAQ equipment for hardware testing and troubleshooting.
- Work with microcontrollers, PLCs, motor drives, sensors, and communication interfaces.
- Develop Python scripts for test automation, log analysis, data processing, and visualization.
- Perform hands-on validation of software and firmware on physical robotic systems.
- Assist with robot setup, calibration, regression testing, and system validation.
- Investigate failures and support debugging and root-cause analysis across hardware and software.
- Document test procedures, results, and issues clearly.
- Collaborate with electrical, embedded, and software engineers to improve testing and system reliability.
Required Qualifications
- Background in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Embedded Systems, Robotics, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of electronics, circuits, sensors, and instrumentation.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters.
- Proficiency in Python for automation and data analysis.
- Working knowledge of Linux and C/C++.
- Familiarity with microcontrollers and communication protocols such as SPI, I²C, UART, CAN, or RS-485 is a plus.
- Experience with robotics, embedded systems, or laboratory hardware is a plus.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
What We Offer
- Real-world engineering experience on active product development projects.
- Mentorship from experienced mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers.
- Opportunities to design, prototype, and validate hardware from concept to testing.
- A collaborative and innovative environment where your ideas can make a real impact.
This internship requires at least 20 hours of work per week and provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience developing and validating software for advanced medical imaging and robotic systems, while contributing directly to test infrastructure, tooling, and product development activities that the engineering team relies on daily.
