WEST (Women in the Enterprise of Science and Technology) is a nonprofit learning community that provides women and allies in STEM with the inspiration, knowledge, and connections to reach their full potential. WEST offers learning, networking, mentoring, and career development programs for STEM professionals across career stages.
Position Overview
WEST is looking for an enthusiastic and creative Marketing & Communications Intern to join our team and help increase visibility for WEST, our programs, and our mission.
This is a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in nonprofit marketing, social media, event promotion, email marketing, website content, and community engagement. The intern will have the opportunity to meet and network with professionals and leaders across the Boston-area STEM community.
Responsibilities May Include
Social Media & Content
- Help develop, write, and schedule LinkedIn and other social media posts
- Create engaging content highlighting WEST events, members, volunteers, speakers, and community impact
- Attend WEST events and capture relevant photos, quotes, and insights for social media
- Help identify opportunities to increase social media engagement and visibility
- Support special campaigns and initiatives
Event Marketing
- Assist with marketing and promotion of WEST events
- Create event flyers and promotional materials using Canva
- Post WEST events to community calendars and other relevant platforms
- Help coordinate event promotion and maintain a marketing calendar
- Track the effectiveness of different promotional channels
Email Marketing & HubSpot
- Learn and use HubSpot to support email marketing and communications
- Help write and compile content for newsletters and event communications
- Collect and review quantitative and qualitative data from marketing campaigns
- Help maintain marketing and contact information in HubSpot
Website & Digital Content
- Help create and update event pages and website content
- Ensure event information, links, and promotional materials are accurate and up to date
- Update event photos and other digital content
- Assist with blog and other written content, including member and volunteer spotlights, event recaps, and STEM-related topics
Community Engagement
- Attend WEST events, when possible, to learn more about our community and support marketing efforts
- Help highlight community members, partners, volunteers, and contributors
- Support other marketing and communications projects as needed

- Working with a small nonprofit team
Qualifications
- Interest in marketing, communications, social media, events, or nonprofit organizations
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Creative, organized, detail-oriented, and dependable
- Comfortable learning new technology and marketing platforms
- Able to work independently and meet deadlines
- Experience with Canva, HubSpot, social media, or website platforms is a plus, but not required
Compensation
This is an unpaid internship intended for students receiving academic credit. WEST will work with the student and their school to meet applicable internship requirements.
