Project Manager — Freelance

John Kind Studios LLC | Remote | Project-based contract assignments

ABOUT JKS

John Kind Studios is a Boston-rooted creative production and strategic services company serving nonprofits, institutions, community organizations, artists and businesses. We bring strategy, creative talent, production and project management together to help organizations build visibility, trust and support.

Our mission: Make what needs to happen, happen.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking freelance Project Managers to coordinate accepted client projects from handoff through delivery. You will turn an approved scope into a clear plan, keep collaborators aligned and identify problems early.

This is an ongoing contractor roster opportunity. Individual assignments are offered and accepted separately.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Build and maintain project schedules, task owners, milestones and dependencies.
• Confirm that the approved brief, staffing plan, required agreements and payment clearance are in place before directing production.
• Coordinate meetings, team handoffs, client inputs, feedback and approvals.
• Track revisions, budget concerns, staffing gaps and delivery risks.
• Maintain concise project updates and escalate decisions that exceed your authority.
• Coordinate internal review, delivery readiness and project closeout.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience organizing projects with multiple contributors and deadlines.
• Clear written communication, dependable follow-through and sound judgment.
• Comfort using Slack, Google Workspace and project-tracking tools.
• Ability to distinguish routine coordination from decisions requiring approval.
• Creative production, events, agency or nonprofit experience is helpful. Relevant school, community and independent projects are welcome.

AUTHORITY

You manage the approved project plan. Changes to pricing, scope, staffing commitments, compensation or client terms require JKS approval.

COMPENSATION AND ASSIGNMENTS

The project management fee is 10% of the total approved project budget identified in the accepted Project Snapshot. The calculation and resulting dollar fee are confirmed before you accept the assignment.

Payment follows completion of agreed management duties or the written milestone schedule. This is a project-based independent contractor opportunity with no guaranteed assignments, hours, salary or employee benefits. Joining the roster does not itself create a paid assignment.

LOCATION AND AVAILABILITY

Remote coordination with dependable availability for agreed meetings and deadlines. Any required onsite work must be identified and accepted separately.

HOW TO APPLY

Apply through Handshake with your résumé and a short cover letter addressing:

Describe a project you helped deliver. What did you personally own?

A contributor misses a deadline and client approval is overdue. What would you do first?

What is your location, time zone and dependable weekday availability in Eastern Time?

Confirm your understanding of the project-based contractor arrangement and 10% compensation structure.

Keep responses concise and specific. Existing examples are welcome; no unpaid client work or speculative project is required.

Selected applicants will receive an invitation to schedule a conversation with John Kind.
