VHB is seeking a Structural Engineer to join the dynamic and growing structures group in our Orlando, FL office. In this position, the successful candidate will serve as a design or project engineer, assist the Project Manager with task management in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation related structural projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop conceptual, preliminary, and final plans for bridge projects using MicroStation or AutoCAD
  • Lead bridge inspections and perform load capacity ratings
  • Perform bridge project scoping studies and alternatives analyses
  • Calculate quantities and develop construction cost estimates
  • Develop contract documents and specifications
  • Perform engineering design of bridges and highway structures as well as structural elements for land development projects
  • Travel for short periods (generally one week maximum) to work on projects in other VHB offices along the East Coast may be required occasionally

Skills and Abilities:
  • Must possess strong technical skills
  • Familiarity with bridge design (steel, wood, concrete, prestressed concrete) and detailing. Seismic analysis is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivation
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality control and quality assurance
  • Enthusiasm to learn and ability to take responsibility

Qualifications:
  • BS in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred), structural graduate degree a plus
  • 3-6 years of professional bridge design experience
  • EIT/PE preferred
  • Licensed PE in Florida (or ability to obtain within 6 months) is a plus
  • Possess an understanding of completing transportation studies, design reports, final design documents and developing contract plans, in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures including FDOT, AASHTO, AREMA, & other state DOT’s
  • Familiarity with structural engineering software (AASHTOWare, STAAD Pro, LARSA, SP Column, FB Pier, MerlinDASH, Mathcad, MIDAS, etc.)
  • Familiarity with FDOT structural programs is a strong plus.
  • MicroStation and AutoCAD experience a strong plus
