Paralegals work directly with attorneys on a variety of litigation coordination and trial preparation assignments. The tasks vary depending upon the experience and performance of the individual paralegal. The litigation coordination work involves data compilation, deadline tracking, preparation of billing materials, and the preparation of weekly and quarterly status reports for use by attorneys in reporting to clients. The trial preparation work involves review and summation of discovery, collection and review of medical records and other materials, updating case management databases, and assisting attorneys with preparing and filing pleadings.

Experience with WORD, Access, and Excel programs will be helpful; these programs will have to be mastered in order to perform a number of the daily tasks in a timely manner. Each paralegal will, under the direction of their supervising attorney, have responsibility for and contact with outside counsel and clients.

A professional demeanor, and excellence in verbal and written communication, an organized and detail-oriented attention to tasks, and the ability to respond promptly to information requests and work within deadlines, are essential characteristics of all paralegals. Excellent interpersonal skills are a must in a working environment that requires constant communication among paralegals and the attorneys, and a team approach to all tasks.
A college degree from an accredited institution is required. A paralegal certification is helpful but not required. This is an entry level job for which all training will be provided after you join the firm. Computer skills as noted will be helpful.
