Intern - Electrical Engineering (Richmond, VA)

Kimley-Horn, one of Fortune Magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For,” is looking for an Electrical Engineering Intern to join our Richmond, VA team.
As an intern, you will perform a variety of electrical engineering tasks, supporting various project managers and collaborating with team members. You will receive both on-the-job and formal training as well as mentorship, camaraderie, and exposure to plan production, project financials, and client interactions. 
Job duties may include, but are not limited to:   
  • Power distribution plan development for site/civil, buildings, lighting, and ITS/control systems
  • Lighting/photometric plan development
  • Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Design – traffic operations centers, sensors, message signs, closed circuit TV cameras (CCTV), fiber optic networks
  • Instrumentation and Control systems plan development for utilities
  • Technical specification and report writing
  • Electrical equipment cost research
Position Requirements:
  • Have, or in the process of receiving by summer 2021, a BS or MS from an ABET accredited university in the field of Civil or Electrical Engineering
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines
  • Detail-oriented
  • Team player with an ability to contribute to a positive work environment
  • Ability to work independently and balance multiple priorities
Desired Qualifications:
  • Participation in professional societies or extracurricular activities
  • Applicable internship experience and/or work experience
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Excel, Microstation, Synchro, VISSIM, and/or GIS

Bachelors or better in Electrical Engineering or related field.
