Survey Crew Chief

Reporting to the Director of Land Surveying in New York's Capital Region; primary responsibility is for the supervision of a field survey staff and execution of various field assignments, the operation of various surveying instruments and equipment and various field assignments. Assignments may include boundary surveys, topographic surveys, GPS surveys, leveling surveys, construction layout and records research. Some overnight travel required.Includes prevailing wages for public works projects.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Responsible for completion of assignments on time and budget.
  • Supervises field staff in the completion of field surveys.
  • Coaches and mentors field staff and makes tactical decision for the completion of assignments.
  • Operates advanced survey technology including GPS, Total Stations, Robotic Total Stations, digital and differential levels and data collections devices.
  • Responsible for data collection, notes and reports.
  • Operates data link/data conversion software for daily field data upload/download.
  • Assures maintenance of equipment and survey vehicle (morning and evening)
  • Participates in daily project briefing and de-briefing as required by survey manager.
  • Operates digging tools and augers for the completion of soil testing.
  • Operates PC with of Microsoft Office suite of software.
  • Operation of AutoCad Civil 3D software.
  • Internet and County Clerk records research.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Non-essential Job Functions:
  • Operation of Acad Civil3D software.
  • Trimble Business Center software.
  • Carlson Survey software.
  • Operation of GIS software.
Job Requirements
  • Five to seven years of relevant experience.
  • Maintains a valid driver’s license.
  • Completes and maintains health and safety training as may be required by Chazen.
  • Conducts his/herself in accordance with applicable safety training.
  • Conducts and presents his/herself in a professional manner to Chazen staff, clients and public.
  • Completes technical training as may be required by Chazen.
  • Participates in business development opportunities, corporate functions and public events as may be required.
