CPA-Zicklin Corporate Political Spending Summer Internship

2021 CPA-Zicklin Corporate Political Spending Summer Internship

CPA's 2021 Summer Research Interns will be engaged in important research on corporate political spending, the path of dark money in political campaigns, and other areas related to the Center for Political Accountability's work on corporate political spending and activity. While CPA wishes it was safe to host the 2021 Summer interns in its Washington, D.C. office, the Summer 2021 Internship will be entirely remote.

The mission of the Center for Political Accountability (CPA), a non-profit, non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization, is to encourage corporations to adopt disclosure of their electoral spending and to promote responsible oversight practices and accountability policies. CPA partners with NGOs, public pension funds, and socially responsible investors to file the CPA model political spending resolution at leading corporations. CPA also partners with the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business to publish the annual CPA-Zicklin Index of Corporate Political Disclosure and Accountability, which ranks companies in the S&P 500 based on their transparency and accountability policies, and maintains TrackYourCompany.org, a database of corporations’ voluntarily disclosed electoral contributions.

CPA is seeking summer interns to conduct research for the 2021 CPA-Zicklin Index as and additionally work on research following up on CPA's Collision Course and Conflicted Consequences reports. The ideal candidate will have an interest in the influence of money in politics, excellent attention to detail, and interest in analyzing campaign finance data. Interns will learn about campaign finance law and the various entities that engage in political spending. Interns will work under the supervision of CPA’s Vice President for Programs.

Interns will receive a stipend of $700 upon completion of the program and may earn academic credit. Interns generally work 10:00 AM-5:00 PM Monday-Thursday and the internship lasts 10 weeks (with some flexibility for start and end dates).
