Finance Summer Intern - Revenue Cycle Management Consultant

JOB DESCRIPTION
The intern’s work will focus on three key facets:
  • Project Based – Each intern will perform the assigned operational work and/or assigned a project(s) for a specific finance function. Interns are expected to analyze the project and propose creative, efficient solutions to improve the work. Their experience, findings, and solutions will be included as a part of the end of summer Capstone presentations.
  • Central Office Finance Operations – Interns will get an overview of Finance activities at a corporate level and have the opportunity to learn about the day-to-day operations of a specific corporate level finance function.
  • Hospital / Healthcare Facility Finance Operations – Interns will have the opportunity to visit and/or work at an assigned hospital or other healthcare facility to experience finance operations first hand.

Project Details – Staff Modeling:
  • Develop a staffing model for Revenue Cycle Services patient accounting functions. This includes the Revenue Cycle Services of; billing, claims follow-up, denials management, payment posting and credit balance management. These functions span all NYC H+H facilities and involve over five hundred staff. 
  • The completed model will include volume and productivity metrics based on industry best practice and a comparison to current state staffing.
  • The intern will be expected to visit business offices, and interview staff and senior leaders.
  • The ideal candidate will have excellent analytic and research skills.
  • The candidate is expected to deliver an excel model and ensure that it is replicable and sustainable.
  • Interns will also have many opportunities to interface with and meet Senior Finance Leaders throughout the course of the program. These leaders are available to offer mentoring and career coaching in the field of Healthcare Finance Administration.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in the performance of activities and tasks which are applicable to the programs and areas stated above.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
Level I:
Students who have completed their first year of graduate or professional studies (beyond a Bachelor’s degree) and subsequent years of study.

Level II:
Students entering junior year through the completion of senior year of college.
