College Application Writing Instructor

Job Description
Primary functions and purpose of this position including overall objectives of the position
The College Application Writing Program for high school-aged College Crusaders provides an opportunity for juniors and seniors to focus on the written portion(s) of their applications. Our goal is to provide the opportunity for each Crusader to build their essay or supplemental question responses as successfully as possible. We are looking for an engaging and passionate instructor who will build our Crusaders’ confidence, open doors for their creative freedom, and encourage them to stand out from their peers.

Job Requirements
Specific Duties
·        Provide instructional overview of the college essay and supplemental question writing processes
·        Initiate brainstorming activities for idea development
·        Manage and track progress of individual Crusader progress
·        Assist with structuring, review, and editing of all written work
·        Develop and implement lesson plans geared towards group and individual needs
·        Ensure opportunities for one-on-one support
·        Serve as a positive role model throughout the program to youth and peers
·        Must commit to all 10 Saturday sessions
Position Qualification and Competencies
Essential KSOC’s (knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics)
·        A strong belief in the ability of all students – regardless of background – to excel academically
·        Exceptional creative writing, grammatical, and editing skills
·        Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills
·        Strong organizational and classroom management abilities
Education and Experience Requirements
·        Earned Bachelor’s degree, secondary ELA teaching certification (or related field)
·        Demonstrated experience working with youth, especially from diverse populations
Other Requirements
·        Must have own transportation and technology
·        Commitment to the vision, mission, and values of the College Crusade
Additional Information
·        Dates: Fall runs Oct. 2 – Dec. 11 (off on Nov. 27 for break)
·        Time: 9:00am – 12:00pm
·        Location: Providence location, TBD
