Description
Primary functions and purpose of this position including overall objectives of the position:
CAAP (Crusade Adventure and Academic Program) is a 10-week high intensity program designed to build self-esteem and confidence in middle school aged youth by having them participate in a variety of problem-solving tasks, group challenges, and healthy risk-taking adventures. The Academics Teacher will provide supplemental experiences for the students to further develop transferable literacy-focused skills. We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative team player ready to develop engaging and relevant curriculum for multi-lingual learners!
Requirements
Major Responsibilities
- Facilitate active and engaging lessons to youth centered around Social Justice topics
- Responsible for developing, writing, and implementing meaningful, high-quality curriculum
- Modify classroom instruction and content to accommodate all learning styles
- Work directly and indirectly with middle school youth in large and small group activities
- Provide guidance to Mentors assisting with student work completion
- Collaborate with Site Manager and Site Facilitator to ensure all youth needs are met
- Serve as a positive and professional role model throughout the program to youth and peers
- Must commit to all 10 Saturdays and training days for both Fall and Spring sessions
Position Qualification and Competencies
Essential KSOC’s (knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics)
- Organized, flexible, and patient within a fast-paced environment with minimal need for supervision
- Understanding of group dynamics and the developmental characteristics of middle school youth
- Firm belief that all students are capable of exceeding expectations regardless of background
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Earned Bachelor’s degree and current ESL teaching certification; Knowledge of current ELA-CCSS
- Proficient in administering literacy-based curriculum and instruction to MLL populations
- Demonstrated experience working with middle school-aged youth from diverse populations
- Must have own reliable transportation

- Knowledge of the barriers and obstacles that low-income families and first-generation students encounter in the journey to higher education is preferred.

Additional Information
- Dates: Fall runs Oct. 2 – Dec. 11 (off on Nov. 27 for break); Spring TBD
- Training: Fall training on Sep. 24 (night) and 25; Spring training TBD
- Time: 10:00am – 2:00pm, to include prep time
- Location: Central Falls location, TBD
