Magazine – Assistant Newsletter Manager –2022 Winter/Spring INTERNSHIP

Magazine – Assistant Newsletter Manager –2022 Winter/Spring INTERNSHIP

5+ hours/week

Picture This Post magazine, www.picturethispost.com, alerts time-strapped readers to cultural offerings that are the best match for their interests in art, books, dance, film, museums, music, theater, as well as travel with a focus on culture. We not only cover culture creators and venues with high name recognition, but also delight in helping to showcase bold, creative strokes by fledgling artists in all genres.

YOU ARE A KEY PART OF THE NEWSLETTER TEAM--YOUR FOCUS IS ON CONSTRUCTING AND SENDING ONLINE NEWSLETTERS

Supervision:

Amy Munice, Editor in Chief, will be the primary supervisor of your internship.  She is the co-publisher of the magazine, a 30+ year PR professional and freelance journalist, and cultural reporter who has penned many hundreds of articles.  She will be the author of your future reference for job hunting purposes.

You will be responsible for keeping a to-do list updated in real time, and a cumulative report- -which if possible, we would prefer you also share with your school internship supervisor.

Training sessions are held by zoom—usually in small groups—throughout the week and weekend.  Initially you will need to adapt your schedule in order to attend training sessions for your role in the soonest possible timeframe.  Once you have the prerequisite skills, you determine your schedule each week in order to meet your school’s hour requirements for your internship.

ALL VOLUNTEERS – ALL REMOTE WORKERS:

Picture This Post is an entirely volunteer organization, from top to bottom.  We are a not-for-profit (as opposed to a 501c3 non-profit) – too small to hire accountants etc. needed for non-profit status.  Students are like all volunteers EXCEPT that much time/energy goes into training students and helping you develop a portfolio for future job hunting.

JOB DESCRIPTION/DUTIES

As an Assistant Newsletter Manager, you will learn the skills and platforms involved in creating newsletters and managing newsletter distribution systems. Once you have the modicum of expertise to handle these tasks, you will manage correspondence for the newsletter team, create newsletters, and send out newsletters to Picture This Post readers.

This student volunteer position is designed to immerse you in the processes of online
Newsletter publication. While not listed as an “internship” position, most of our past and current student volunteers concur that the training and educational opportunities in this and
other Picture This Post volunteer positions far exceeds that of most internship jobs. The
more time you put into this experience the more you will get out of it. Many volunteers
take on multiple roles and more responsibilities that give them more to show at the end
of their time at Picture This Post – a fat portfolio of published newsletters among other lists
of accomplishments.

Requirements:

- Commitment to fulfill tasks for all Picture This Post staff members—to remain in good standing (estimated time commitment of 30 – 60 minutes/week—on no particular schedule. See Picture This Post Expectations of ALL Student Volunteers

- Commitment to study and adhere to the Picture This Post Guidelines for Layouts and Publishing, and other guidelines relevant to your role.

- Minimal time commitment of 5 hours/week--- except during exams and other highly demanding school schedules, which we EXPECT you to prioritize over your volunteer work.

What You Will Do:

-You will do layouts for newsletters on email automation platforms like MailerLite, Sender, and Zoho.

-You will schedule and manage newsletter distributions.

-You will manage systems for “Opt-in” an “Opt-out” letters per CAN-SPAM Act requirements.

-You will use “scrubbing” duplication automation to ensure that newsletters are only sent once to readers who are on our distribution lists.

-You will do all the Expectations of ALL Student Volunteers tasks: completing social media posts; keeping up with the writer/editor feedback system (a key Picture This Post staff training tool); joining staff rotations for shared tasks such as sending newsletter opt-in emails and uploading events to the Picture This Post Readers’ Calendar

Note: these miscellaneous tasks take about 30-60 minutes a week.

-You can add on to your Assistant Newsletter Manager role with other Picture This Post Jobs—your schedule permitting. **The top recommendation is to also get training as an Assistant Publisher for Layouts.

What You Will Learn:

This position is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in learning the mechanics of online newsletters and managing correspondence.
