POSITION TITLE: Research Assistant II
 
POSITION SUMMARY: 
The candidate will be required to learn quickly and apply cutting-edge technologies to address critical problems in HIV vaccine design. Candidate must be self-motivated, able to manage deadlines and solve problems. Excellent communication skills are essential. Candidate must work well independently and as part of a team.
 
There will be opportunities to interact with experts in immunology, virology, bioinformatics, clinical researchers, and structural biologists. Additional training opportunities exist at Scripps in science writing and career development.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Under minimal supervision, independently and in collaboration with others perform research and conduct a wide variety of standard laboratory procedures for projects; analyze data and interpret results; investigate, troubleshoot and modify methods and procedures as necessary; may assist in designing experiments; may provide routine equipment maintenance as well as guidance/training to other department personnel; perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned. 
 
REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained.
  • Requires 3-5 years of experience.
  • Candidates possessing a master’s degree, 2+ years’ experience required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
Interested applicants should have a B.S. degree with a strong background in molecular biology, virology and immunology. They should be able to plan, conduct and analyze complex experiments under guidance in a highly collaborative environment, and be interested in acquiring new skills and techniques.

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience.
