PROGRAM AND COUNSEL - ANALYST
Duties and Responsibilities
The office of Program and Counsel provides central staff support to the Assembly Majority Democratic Conference and reports to the Speaker of the Assembly. This position is an opportunity to participate in the state government legislative process. Staff works in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment to provide policy analysis on legislation within assigned subject matter areas. Analysts work in conjunction with Committee Chairs in the development of the legislative priorities of their committees. Additionally, staff assists the Assembly Majority Democratic Conference in negotiations with the Senate and the Executive on the annual state budget. Other duties include research and development of policy initiatives; preparation of analytical memoranda relating to bills; coordination of committee meetings and public hearings; briefing Assembly Majority Conference Members on budget and legislative negotiations; monitoring public policy and regulatory developments; collaborating with members of the Assembly, Senate, Executive branch, lobbyists, state agencies, and advocacy groups to advance Conference priorities; assisting Assembly Majority Conference members with floor debates, public hearings, roundtable discussions, and other high-profile public events.. Starting salary is $55,000.
Minimum Qualifications
Hiring criteria: This position requires a Bachelors’ degree and a flexible schedule. Analysts work product should be objective, analytical, accurate and thorough. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to multi-task and analyze voluminous material in a fast-paced and production-oriented environment.
