Position summary
Are you a seasoned relational data modeler with an ambition to expand your career with geospatial data management? Do you pay your technical debts before your internet bill? Is your wardrobe scalable, reliable, and maintainable? Motivf is looking for a software engineer familiar with data modeling ready to design and architect geospatial web applications in an agile team environment. Do you weigh the tradeoffs of Mercator and Lambert for fun? This work depends heavily on principles of spatial information management for our enterprise Government clients. 
 
Help the U.S. DOD’s Asset Management group combine 6 existing information systems into one new, optimal architecture leveraging geospatial information. 
 
In our highly experienced, collaborative, and creative team, you will analyze the underlying data architecture of existing systems and their usage in multileveled operational procedures to formulate new data architecture and strategic data models to improve operations. This project will improve our efficiency to support client logistics, strategy, and mission. This work affects DoD locations worldwide. 
 

Career Development: 
In this role you will have the opportunity to learn by:
  • Working with senior program leaders to leverage your experience architecting enterprise data models.
  • Abstracting up from low-level information to diagram recommended information flows.
  • Weighing systematic tradeoffs of your technical decisions.
  • Learning database technologies and design databases using the models created by you and the team.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Perform work and engage in team communications during Eastern business hours.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the tradeoffs between legacy and emergent relational database technologies (Oracle/MySQL/Postgresql).
  • Produce technical documentation such as designs, process flow diagrams, data flow diagrams, decision trees, and data dictionaries.
  • Clearly explain your technical recommendations to technical and non-technical collaborators, including project leadership and the client.

Required Qualifications:
  • U.S. citizenship with ability to work in the United States.
  • Ability to pass a background investigation (see https://www.military.com/veteran-jobs/security-clearance-jobs/security-clearance-eligibility.html)
  • Per federal mandate, proof of completed COVID vaccination by December 8, 2021.
  • Mature sense of self and awareness of your own normal cognitive biases.
  • Experience creating data models and building databases.
  • Stellar communication and interpersonal skills. You will be asked to work collaboratively with Product Owners and Subject Matter Experts to identify and understand requirements.
  • Willingness to promote Agile software development best practices in a hybrid Agile/waterfall project environment.
  • Manage workloads across multiple tasks.
  • Deliver data diagrams and database models within agreed timeframes.
