2022 Summer Intern - Chief Accounting Office - Reinsurance Team

The Chief Accounting Office (CAO), Reinsurance intern will help our team manage and administer the Equitable reinsurance portfolio which consists of both ceded and assumed risk transfer in accordance with the company’s overall strategy for Risk and Capital management, governed by corporate guidelines and various reinsurance treaty contracts in place, as well as regulatory requirements. Ceded reinsurance transfers risk to manage corporate retention limits, reduce claim volatility, allow for efficient allocation of capital, access underwriting and mortality expertise, and allows new partnerships to assist in our new product rollouts. Administrative requirements vary for the various lines of business including Life, Annuity, Disability, Accident & Health, and Major Medical, for policies issued from all Equitable entities. In addition to ceding risk, Equitable actively participates in a profit generating line of reinsurance, assuming life risk from the reinsurance marketplace since 1971. Participation in the profitable assumed life market allows the gathering of valuable reinsurance industry and mortality trend information. In addition to Life Assumed business, we assume reinsurance related to run-off contracts for Disability, Long term care, Accident & Health, and Aviation lines of business.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Support specific areas within Finance at Equitable Holdings (EQH) and have opportunity to learn about additional functions through group research projects and networking opportunities with peers in the program.
  • Assist in the day-to-day administration and transactions of the Assumed and Ceded Life Reinsurance portfolios. 
  • Assist with monthly close responsibilities and maintaining policies and procedures
Internship Dates: June 6, 2022 to August 12, 2022
 

Qualifications

 
Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to in a wide variety of situations.

Planning and Organizing: Knowledge of the process of planning and arranging tasks and resources; ability to plan and organize both time and resources to get things completed while structuring and maintaining work in a systematic and highly methodical way.
Continuous Learning: Understanding of the rationale behind the necessity to continually learn and grow and the ability to seek performance feedback and identify approaches to improve own performance and that of others.
Results Orientation: Knowledge of the importance of meeting or exceeding established targets; ability to drive critical activities to completion.

Other Qualifications:
  • Rising senior or rising junior working towards a four-year undergraduate degree with course work in Business, Legal, Finance and/or related discipline
  • Proven financial, quantitative, contract and/or data analysis skills
  • Uncompromising integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Knowledge and hands on experience working with Excel, Word and PowerPoint
