Social Media and Digital Marketing Intern

Are you ready for an opportunity to help jump-start your future career? Looking for an exciting, remote position during your college years? The Mars Generation is seeking a long-term, paid social media and digital marketing intern from Wellesley College! 

The Mars Generation is an innovative 501 (c)(3) non-profit founded in 2015 by Abby Harrison (AKA "Astronaut Abby"), Wellesley '19. This intern would work closely with and receive mentorship from Abby Harrison, Katherine Morin, Wellesley '24, Communications Manager for TMG, and a group of marketing, production, and business professionals. 

The position is long-term, with possible growth from an internship to a title position. As a paid internship ($14/hour 1099 contract position) that offers a flexible schedule and remote working, it is an ideal job for a busy college student looking to earn money and build a professional resume. We have systems and protocols to make remote working rewarding and successful. In addition, this 100%-remote job also means no wear and tear on your car, parking fees, gas expenses, or commuting time. 

This position is perfect for you if you are: 
  1. A Wellesley College Student
  2. Passionate about STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and space
  3. Have ambitions to build experience and a possible career in science and/or communications 
  4. Can dedicate up to 10 hours a week to the job (more hours may be available)
 
**Please note we can be very flexible with hours and may provide opportunities for full-time work over breaks and summer (depending on the projects we are working on).
 
We are looking for a go-getter student looking to build their resume and receive valuable mentorship with an internship that has the potential to grow into a long-term role that will help them land their first job out of college in the communications field.

Tasks Include:
  • Assisting with the development of the Student Space Ambassador Program and Scholarship program
  • Writing and editing blog and social media posts
  • Posting to the Student Space Ambassador Facebook Group and managing comments
  • Helping with PR and outreach to promote Abby's new book, Dream Big! How to Reach for Your Stars
  • Working with clients for sponsored influencer work (past clients include Hasbro, The Lego Group, Eggo, Nissan USA, Disney, Nisson, and more)
  • Potential video experience, helping film interviews and other projects with Abby (example: BBC)
  • Taking photos for social media, YouTube thumbnails, book promotion, and more
  • Research for scripts, blog and social media posts, and content creation
  • Scheduling blog and social media content
  • Coming up with new creative ideas
  • All kinds of other things that pop up...we never know what the next project will be!

  • Understand that a long-term position on your resume is like gold for future career opportunities after college and see this position (and its flexible nature of hours) as a great way to gain long-term professional experience

Things we would love you to have experience with, but it is ok if you don’t:
  • Have basic video editing skills (Canva, iMovie, Adobe Premiere, etc.)
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite 
  • Experience with publishing on WordPress
  • Photography skills and/or love taking photos and editing them
  • Have experience uploading to and using social media platforms (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
  • Google Drive experience
  • Experience with and/or comfortable learning new online software (such as Quickbooks, Asana (project management), MailChimp, etc.)
