Major Gifts Officer

The North Carolina Justice Center is a progressive research and advocacy organization dedicated to expanding opportunity and protecting the rights of low-income individuals in North Carolina.  For over 20 years, the Justice Center has been on the front lines in the courts, at the legislature, in the media, and in communities advocating for positive changes for poor and working North Carolinians. The Justice Center has played a primary role in most of the state’s major policy debates and successfully litigated hundreds of individual cases and class actions.  

The North Carolina Justice Center is seeking a Major Gifts Officer, to solicit major-level gift prospects and donors for the North Carolina Justice Center (NCJC). This position manages a portfolio of about 150 donors which includes stewardship of the donor relationship, which involves identifying, researching, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and relationship building with these individuals while collaborating with NCJC colleagues and leaders. 

Qualifications  
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; CFRE and/or AFP designations preferred. 
  • 5 – 7 years of demonstrated development/fundraising experience, preferably working in non-profit development.  
  • 2 – 4 years of experience in Major Gifts. 
  • Demonstrated success in meeting fundraising goals in the traditional or virtual fundraising environment. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.  
  • Experience in developing and delivering presentations. 
  • Ability to adapt and manage competing demands. 
  • Ability to build and manage relationships with individuals across diverse backgrounds and project areas. 
  • Database management experience is a plus. 
  • Must believe in the mission of the organization. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines required. Must be able to work independently and support the work of others in the organization 
  • Ability to travel and work some evenings and weekends is required.
