POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior Accountant will assist the Controller in maintaining the day-to-day accounting for the Organization’s financial transactions, as well as aid in developing, implementing, and ensuring compliance with financial policies and procedures consistent with GAAP standards and regulatory requirements. The Senior Accountant will also assist with the maintaining and continual improvement of the financial controls system, including general accounting, investments, tax compliance, planning, budgeting, banking, payroll, and benefits. In additional to assisting with the maintaining of internal control safeguards for the receipt of revenue, costs, and expenditures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Prepare and journalize monthly and yearend closing entries
  • Assist with the preparation of annual budget, projections, and forecasts
  • Update and maintain the fixed asset and Investment schedules
  • Reconcile, allocate and journalize semi-monthly payroll and associated benefits
  • Analysis of balance sheet and income statement accounts investigate and correct any errors.
  • Assist with accurate and timely processing of accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Assist with the preparation of financial reports in accordance with agreed deadlines
  • Ensure appropriate journal entries are made accurately and on a timely basis
  • Assist with monthly budget verses actual dissemination
  • Prepare step by step Finance procedural manual
  • Liaison with other FPWA teams, providing advice and guidance and ensure effective and consistent use of agreed financial processes and procedures
  • Liaison with external agencies (e.g., funders, vendors etc.) as required
  • Assist in preparation for annual audits
  • Prepare step by step Finance procedural manual. Special Projects as they arise.

Job holders should note that as a critical member of a small team, they may be expected to provide support across all aspects of accounting and financial management function.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of accounting policies and procedures
  • Minimum of 4 years relevant experience including working within a non-profit environment
  • Experience working with varied funding streams including city and state grants, program grants, restricted and unrestricted fund sources etc.
  • Analytical and proactive. Uses initiatives to reach solutions, identify opportunities for enhancement and improvement of systems and processes
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a high-pressure environment to deadlines. Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining close attention to detail and achieving all required deadlines.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in face of changing circumstances, while maintaining the highest levels of quality
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Self – motivated but works well in teams. Ability to develop effective partnerships across teams. Ability to communicate financial concepts and processes effectively to non-financial managers.
  • Highest levels of integrity and accountability
  • Highest level of systems and database proficiency is essential, together with excellent MS Office skills (especially superior Excel skills) and extensive and in-depth experience of Sage Not for Profit Accounting software (formerly MIP)
