Adirondack Trails Corps Program Coordinator

The Student Conservation Association (SCA), a national force of youth conservation volunteers, has an exciting opportunity in our Program Department. Americas #1 youth conservation service organization seeks an Adirondack Trails Corps Program Coordinator (Program Coordinator) in our Long Lake, New York location.

The Student Conservation Association provides an array of corps and crews programming across the country. Program Coordinators help with the administrative and logistical tasks of executing programs in their corresponding cities/areas. The Program Coordinator position is responsible for ensuring the logistical and administrative task lists associated with the safe, complete and accurate execution of SCAs various Residential programs in their portfolio are completed in a timely manner. This person helps ensures Corps Members and Project Leaders are equipped for the program delivery work scheduled, comply with curriculum and AmeriCorps mandates, safety controls, logistical service/program delivery needs, and mandatory internal record-keeping and administrative requirements. This position reports to the Program Manager.

Roles and Responsibilities

External Engagement:
  • Work with program partners to develop and implement project work plans
  • Schedule and conduct project site visits when applicable
  • Represent Residential Program at SCA and other events
  • Assist Program Manager, Residential in building relationships with community organizations and land partners on a local level
Recruiting & Onboarding:
  • Assist with recruitment and orientation of members and Project Leaders
  • Provide members and Project Leaders with necessary supplies and other logistical requirements
  • Assisting HR as requested with in-person onboarding of members and Project Leaders
Program Planning & Delivery:
  • Help plan and organize project logistics prior and during program
  • Actively coordinate project/member risk to maintain a safe work environment
  • Assure members and self are adhering to AmeriCorps, SCA, and partner policies and procedures as informed by the Program Manager and SCA trainings
  • Assist the Program Manager in tracking and reporting on member activities via accurate and timely completion of service logs and collection of before/during/after photos
  • Serve as the primary day to day member supervisor and project support, including the creation of work plans and member/project schedules (collaboratively with partners)
  • Manage and maintain the programs tool and equipment cache
  • Manage and purchase tools, food, equipment, and supplies in the field
  • Approve member timesheets in an accurate and timely manner
  • Track and code all personal program expenses as per SCA and Program Manager guidelines
  • Assist in the mid-season and end of program evaluation of members
  • Promote leadership development within team and evaluate success & potential
Program Improvements:
  • Role model SCA mission and values to members and program partners
  • Assist Program Manager with administrative duties, such as financial reporting
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager
Internal SCA Engagement:
  • Liaise with HR and Recruitment teams representatives for crew member and member recruiting and onboarding processes;
  • Responsible for keeping abreast of internal policies and procedures and AmeriCorps requirements, such as time-keeping logs, narrative reporting for funders

Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a related field
  • Minimum of 21 years of age
  • Previous trail construction and maintenance experience required
  • Prior experience supervising young adults, preferably in an outdoor setting
  • Ability to organize and inventory large quantities of supplies and materials
  • Valid drivers license and MVR that meets SCA standards
  • Current Wilderness First Responder and CPR certification, or ability to obtain before the start date.
  • Criminal background check that meets SCA standard required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel experience.
  • Ability to work in a team environment or independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to multi-task and trouble shoot in a fast-paced environment
  • Attention to detail and follow through on administrative tasks
