Research Associate – Protein Sciences
The Research Associate for Tectonic will be a highly collaborative team player who has experience producing proteins through over-expression in mammalian cells. Hands on experience with protein purification and mammalian cell culture are required with experience in molecular biology preferred. The successful candidate will contribute to our core research capabilities and the development of our anti-GPCR antibody discovery platform.
The candidate would support both protein production and conduct established assays. This position represents a unique opportunity for the successful applicant to join an innovative start-up at the heart of the Boston biotech ecosystem and to contribute to its long-term success.

Professional Responsibilities: 
• Perform transient transfections of human endothelial kidney (HEK) cells in suspension 
• Maintain seed stocks and active cultures for timely transfection of new constructs with clear documentation of cell health across the stock lifetime 
• Produce and maintain plasmid stocks with E. coli plasmid production and Maxiprep plasmid purification
• Isolate supernatants for secreted proteins
• Purify secreted proteins from supernatants using affinity chromatography
• Assist in the generation and maintenance of written procedures
• Maintain a detailed and accurate lab notebook

Position requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Biology/Biochemistry or related discipline with 1-3 years of directly relevant laboratory experience
• Experience with Expi293 or related mammalian suspension cell systems for the over-expression of proteins for purification
• Experience purifying soluble proteins by affinity chromatography with or without SEC polishing steps
• Experience with chromatography systems such as AKTA preferred
• Proficient communication skills and ability to work both independently and in teams 
• Keen attention to detail and ability to prioritize work on multiple projects, timelines and company goals
• Desire to master core concepts, quickly learn new skills and adapt to new challenges in a rapidly developing startup environment
