Research Technician I

A Research Technician I perform routine laboratory tasks, including maintaining stocks, maintaining laboratory records, and performing experimental procedures. This is considered an entry level position for individuals with little or no prior experience in laboratory procedures. Focus will be on gaining skills.


Responsibilities

The individual reports to the Specimen Processing Lead or Manager and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of laboratory service. Special knowledge and expertise are used in performing the technical aspects of the job Uses limited discretion and judgment in carrying out experiments.


Qualifications

  • BA/BS is required. Independent research experience in addition to school lab experience is usually necessary.
  • Take responsibility for the proper receipt, processing, and data entry of all specimens. (40%)
  • Prepare and maintain laboratory reagents, stocks, cultures, or cell lines. (10%)
  • Proficient in processing, extraction, hazardous material shipping and PK processing within the lab. (15%)
  • Maintain laboratory records including performing data entry in the HutchBase LIMS system. (20%)
  • Operate and carry out basic maintenance of laboratory equipment. (5%)
  • Order and maintain appropriate levels of supplies. (5%)
  • Perform other duties as required. (5%)
  • Able to work Saturday and evenings if required, for on call purposes.

In addition to job duties at Fred Hutch, this position also requires access to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, which requires COVID-19 vaccination without exceptions.
Accordingly, as a condition of employment for this Fred Hutch position, newly hired employees must provide proof of vaccination before their first day of employment.
