Communications/Design Officer

REPORTS TO: Director of Sales & Communications
STATUS: Full-time permanent

The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) is seeking a design and communications savvy individual to join its Sales and Communications team. The Communications/Design Officer contributes thoughtfully to overall marketing and communications strategies, including researching and creating relevant content for the NYFA blog, and social media channels, as well as editorial review of materials. The Designer/Communications Officer helps to ensure clear visual messaging/branding on NYFA.org, as well as with externally-shared materials. This individual is the point person for organizational design needs including, but not limited to: brochures, digital assets, and website/newsletter mockups, while adhering to NYFA’s brand identity and ADA requirements.

Candidates should be a strong writer, a confident designer, and have a passion for the arts/design, digital content, marketing, analytics, research, and NYFA’s mission of supporting artists at critical stages in their creative lives. Candidates should have 2-3 years of experience in a relevant communications/design role. This is a great opportunity for a skilled communications/design professional with an interest in contributing their expertise to an organization dedicated to supporting artists.

NYFA is an organization run by artists; your co-workers will be talented artists with interesting side projects. This role is currently remote, with the option to work from the NYFA offices in Dumbo.

ABOUT NYFA: The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) was established in 1971 to empower artists at critical stages in their creative lives. Today, the nonprofit organization’s programs and services are far-reaching and are rooted in a wealth of physical and online resources. Each year, NYFA awards over $3 million in cash grants to individual visual, performing, and literary artists throughout the United States. NYFA’s Fiscal Sponsorship program, one of the oldest and most reputable in the country, helps national artists and arts organizations raise and manage an average of $4 million annually. NYFA’s Learning programs, including its Artist as Entrepreneur and Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program, provide thousands of artists, creatives, and arts administrators with professional development training and support. NYFA’s website, NYFA.org, is used by more than 1 million people and features more than 20,000 opportunities and resources available to artists in all disciplines.

Key Responsibilities:

Design/Technology:

-Design visual assets to be used on NYFA’s website, social media accounts, and email communications including logos, newsletter templates, and images for social media in line with ADA requirements.
-Design promotional materials for NYFA; primarily in a digital format, but with the potential for printed pieces including bookmarks, brochures, catalogues, annual reports, and advertising collateral for ad trades.
-Update content and formatting on NYFA.org and NYFA’s blog including creating new pages in Wordpress.
-Serve as liaison with NYFA's tech team regarding website design elements, organizational branding visuals, and ADA compliance.

Editorial/Communications:

-Contribute to NYFA’s editorial strategy to improve readership of NYFA’s blog and enhance NYFA’s position as the go-to arts service organization for resources, opportunities, and expert advice.
-Regularly contribute to the site in the form of professional development and career-building articles for artists and arts professionals, “Creative Careers” articles, and highlights/features about NYFA activities and NYFA affiliated artists.
-Contribute editorial skills as needed for print materials, press releases, and content that is published on NYFA’s website and blog.
-Actively seek relevant content for publishing on NYFA’s website, blog, and social media pages.
-Contribute to NYFA’s social media strategy, devising new ways of sharing impactful and engaging content.

You will make a great candidate if you have experience with the following:
Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Writing, Copyediting, Social Media (copy and strategy), Hootsuite or similar tool, Excel, WordPress, Customer Service, Mailchimp

Additional desirable skills, but non-essential to the role:
Adobe Premiere, Premiere Rush, Fluency in Spanish, SEO, Asana or similar project management tool, Experience with NEON or another CRM, Experience creating branded content on TikTok, Google Analytics, HTML and CSS
