Business Development Associate

Dexis seeks a Business Development Associate to join our dynamic Business Development Support Services (BDSS) Department. The Business Development Associate’s primary responsibility is supporting and leading the management of proposal capture and development. S/he will also support crucial BDSS department functions, systems, and processes and conduct market and background research to inform partner, competitor, staffing, and technical strategies. S/he will collaborate with staff from across the company and mentor staff in business development tools, systems, and processes.
 
The ideal candidate will have exposure to and experience in supporting business development efforts in international development and/or foreign affairs with US Government clients, particularly USAID, Department of State, and/or Department of Defense. The Business Development Associate reports to a BDSS Manager or Senior Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Support the entire lifecycle of new business development from capture support and bid tracking to proposal development, submission, and follow-up on a portfolio of opportunities.
  • As proposal coordinator and/or proposal manager, support capture and live proposal development in response to requests for proposals including those for complex field-based projects and large global opportunities such as IDIQs. Responsibilities include coordination of proposal teams, consultant management, calendars, and deadlines; strategy development with technical staff; partner identification, negotiations, and inputs; conducting background/market research; recruiting support; copy-editing; proposal production; and facilitating before- and after-action reviews.
  • Support the drafting, review, and editing of sections or annexes of proposals as needed and appropriate.
  • Support basic proposal graphics production, such as organizational charts using tools such as LucidChart.
  • Conduct compliance reviews of proposal drafts as needed and appropriate.
  • Ensure that final proposals are properly edited and formatted in line with Dexis’ style and branding policies and guidelines.
  • Support the production and submission of final technical and cost proposals and follow-up with clients to confirm receipt.
  • Assist with research and analysis of business opportunities, target countries, clients, partners, and competitors.
  • Contribute to business development systems, tools, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Support the maintenance of corporate information systems (e.g., Salesforce and SharePoint).
  • Assist with BDSS administrative duties as requested.
  • May travel overseas, potentially to fragile states, for proposal capture to include intelligence gathering, partner negotiations, and local staff recruiting. Travel currently on hold due to COVID-19.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Two years of work experience, preferably in the field of business development and/or project management.
  • Interest in and understanding of international development and the ability to learn new audiences quickly.
  • Demonstrated excellent writing, editing, communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and concisely and to write for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with key internal and external contacts, including bid teams, business development consultants and local fixers, and senior management.
  • Entrepreneurial with ability to solve problems creatively and multi-task effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects and deliverables.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure with diverse teams and manage production schedules.
  • Skills in Microsoft Office, particularly in Word (advanced document formatting).
  • Fluent written and spoken English

Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience in international development, particularly with USAID.
  • Proficiency in French or Spanish.
  • Knowledge of Salesforce and GovTribe.
  • Experience developing basic graphics and organizational charts.
