Publishing - Travel Assistant Editor - 2022 Winter/Spring INTERNSHIP

Publishing - Travel Assistant Editor - 2022 Winter/Spring INTERNSHIP

"Some educational institutions require prior approval before the start of an internship. It is the responsibility of the student to check with their institution to be sure they meet any requirements before they accept a position."

DURING THE PANDEMIC- your job will be to coordinate with the skyrocketing number of tourism entities that are now promoting armchair travel via the web-- creating unique adaptations of their content to match the Picture This Post cultural focus (music and dance festivals, film festivals etc.)

Supervision:

Amy Munice, Editor in Chief, will be the primary supervisor of your internship. She is the co-publisher of the magazine, a 30+ year PR professional and freelance journalist, and cultural reporter who has penned many hundreds of articles. She will be the author of your future reference for job hunting purposes.

You will be responsible for keeping a to-do list updated in real time, and a cumulative report- -which if possible, we would prefer you also share with your school internship supervisor.

Training sessions are held by zoom—usually in small groups—throughout the week and weekend. Initially you will need to adapt your schedule in order to attend training sessions for your role in the soonest possible timeframe. Once you have the prerequisite skills, you determine your schedule each week in order to meet your school’s hour requirements for your internship.

ALL VOLUNTEERS – ALL REMOTE WORKERS:

Picture This Post is an entirely volunteer organization, from top to bottom. We are a not-for-profit (as opposed to a 501c3 non-profit) – too small to hire accountants etc. needed for non-profit status. Students are like all volunteers EXCEPT that much time/energy goes into training students and helping you develop a portfolio for future job hunting.

JOB DUTIES/TRAINING:

AFTER THE PANDEMIC - your job will be to do preview articles via q/a interviews with a travel focus.

You are also invited to write 1+ review articles/week-- in the areas we cover. Send a request to see our unique PICTURE THIS writers' guidelines to https://www.picturethispost.com/contact-us/

Please look at all the sections of our magazine and tell us which ones you are especially interested in and whether you want to focus on social media, writing or both.  Please especially study our Travel section and travel subsections in Latin America, North America, Europe and Asia.

Hours flexible 10+ per week. (Plus 10+ hours if writing training is desired).

This is a Volunteer position-- we are all volunteers, from top to bottom. Training is provided as desired, but this is not an internship position. The start date and end dates are flexible.

Picture this Post showcases travel opportunities worldwide and publishes previews, reviews and other travel coverage for readers in the following cities—

Your job will emphasize learning how to edit press releases from travel entities to make them appropriate for journalistic (non-promotional) previews. You will also learn how to conduct interviews via email +-- also for preview coverage. You will learn how to layout these preview articles and do basic social media shares of these stories. You will be responsible for cherry picking travel news that best matches our overall content and select content for previews.

You will also help our magazine to shine a light on worldwide festivals as part of our Travel Section. You will also make sure that our magazine, Picture this Post, is on key travel related media lists.

You will usually confer with the editor/publisher on a weekly basis via teleconference.

Prerequisite: Proven interest in travel. Literacy in multiple languages is a plus.
