The City of Corpus Christi (pop. 327,406) is a beautiful costal city in the South Texas region, located 130 miles southeast of San Antonio. Known as the “Sparkling City by the Sea,” Corpus Christi is the Nueces County Seat, and one of the largest seaports in the United States.

The Parks and Recreation Department manages 2,100 acres of developed and undeveloped open spaces that include parks, city beaches, natural habitats, and facilities such as recreation centers, pools, gyms, ball fields, senior centers, tennis courts, and golf courses. The Department designs programs and services to enrich the quality of life for residents and visitors by delivering recreational, social, and cultural programs and activities. The Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Department is a nationally recognized organization, accredited by the CAPRA and the NRPA. As such, the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department is one of 20 cities in Texas and one of 183 cities nationwide to earn this distinction.

The Director of Parks and Recreation is a member of the city’s leadership team. The Director provides subject matter expertise to the city and leads the department by planning, organizing, and directing activities associated with the delivery of services in a coastal, full-service parks and recreation department, as well as handling the promotion and administration of public, state, and federal grant funded programs designed to benefit the community. For FY2020-2021, the Parks and Recreation Department has a capital and operational budget of $18,739,626 and the support of 187 Full-Time employees and 103 Part-Time Employees.

The salary range for this position is $102,299 – $167,629 depending upon qualifications and experience. Additionally, the City of Corpus Christi offers a comprehensive, market-competitive benefits package.
 
The next Director of Parks and Recreation will be an innovative and experienced leader who is passionate about service delivery excellence and who presents a record of accomplishments, technical knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to lead a nationally recognized parks and recreation department. Qualified candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree in Parks Administration, Recreation or closely related field and a minimum of ten (10) years related professional experience to include at least five (5) years in a leadership or management role. A master’s degree is preferred.
